I know it's not in the busiest part of town, but Deitz and Watson's new warehouse/building is going up quickly. I'll get some pictures soon. This is a good thing for the Tacony area and did add some additional jobs to the city.

Barf. A massive redevelopment of the surrounding NEIGHBORHOOD? Yes. More and better retail stores in the deserted North Hall? YES. Structural changes and redesign of the beautiful Central Hall? NO. Copying the mall-ified, crapilicious Union Station model?? NO!!

how right you are. 30th st station preserves the grand waiting room for its original purpose, i.e., waiting for your train to be called. Only Grand Central Station in NY does the same but it has been humiliated by being reduced to a local commuter train station.

I think hopefully it will be, though. After reading this, I reached out to a contact who is high-level with the University City District. He said that was really interpretation of the reporter, and they are really not looking to go down the path of Union Station. There will be many opportunities for public input. So when those arise, make sure to give your input!

Union Station as a model for 30th street?? Please, no. Improve the bathrooms, signage, platforms, connections to Center City and Univ. City and existing retail--but don't turn it into a mall with the train station as an after thought.

Thank you! I hate Union Station. 30th Street could stand to have some better retail, but it's a train station first and still looks like one. Union Station's actual station looks like a Greyhound stop.

Drop an urban shopping plaza on one of the nearby parking lots while enhancing 30th Street's retail experience. Better retail means better maintenance, but too much of it will obscure its historic uniqueness.

Whatever they do, they better not get rid of the Groundhog Day alarm clock signboard.

Article on the Gallery renovation: merchants being booted complaining (unsuccessfully) to City Council:

http://philadelphia.cbslocal.com/201...-city-council/

But still no real information on when renovations and changes to the building will begin.

PREIT is being extremely vague so far. I suppose its due to their ongoing negotiations with the City, but you would think they would be trying to win the PR war by promoting their plans aggressively, especially since the only news we have so far is that they are putting mom and pop kiosks out of business.

I appreciate the way they are not playing the PR game. There are far too many second class developers in this city that play PR games and have nothing to show for it except gaping holes in our urban fabric.

I'm more of the philosophy of getting it done, than talking about getting it done.

I guess. Too much chatter and too little action is bad. But it would be nice to know when things will begin. Oh, well. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

Spare me. This building harms me, physically. I can't prove it, but it is.
