July 29 mid-day update

Is the left tower crane at around the same height as the final height of the tower?

Wow!! They have come far since I last checked this one out!
(Greetings from Philadelphia.)
I see that the core takes up a good chunk of floor space. I'm not an architect, or have anything to do with construction, but why? I'm curious.
The tower is starting to look great, with the glass starting to happen! NICE!

Well the top of the Millennium Tower is 645', so it looks like it will have another 200' or so to go past the top of the crane as it is right now.

The top of the tower crane is about the same height as the Transamerica Pyramid at the moment fully extended. Around 850 feet.

Salesforce & 181 Fremont 07/29/16

View from the Fox Plaza in the Civic Center. Most of the Millennium tower will disappear soon from my view. I will miss the lighted roof at night!

The inside of the core is still used for important parts of the office. At the very least the elevators, stairs, and bathrooms, but potentially other storage rooms as well. The thick core helps with strength in case of earthquakes or fire, as steel beam buildings could potentially melt under heat and their own weight (see wtc in nyc)

Salesforce Rising, Millennium Sinking!

08/01/2016 - According to a front page story in the San Francisco Chronicle by Matier & Ross columnists the Millennium Tower has sunk 16 inches since it was built in 2008 and leaned 2 inches. Yikes! Here is a view from my apartment of the Salesforce Tower and the Millennium Tower this morning.

You should be getting a new lighted roof in front of it to replace the old one at night sometime soon; only a bit higher up, bigger, and maybe even flashier. I hope you will be okay with that.

Thanks for the info. SFView. I have noticed quite a trend with colored lights on high rises. Some change color. Hopefully Salesforce will replace what is disappearing from the view of the Millennium Tower. (The Millennium may be the first skyscraper to disappear completely underground!)

It's nowhere near as much as I see in Asian cities, but with LED lights it is getting easier to do in American cities like SF.

By the way, there is a LEED credit that discourages light pollution in the night sky from buildings in California. This is an environmental concern among many others in a very green conscious state. While some like cities or buildings with bright lights, others much rather see the stars. I like seeing both, but I am willing to travel for that. Anyway, this maybe a little off topic.

Is it just me or is there no taper starting at the 25th floor like originally planned? Maybe it's just too subtle.

^^^Well if you can already see Salesforce tapering, you can probably see Millennium leaning.

LOL, SFView!

Regarding the prior comment, they did install columns only one story tall at the 25th floor, as opposed to the normal two-story columns. I've put a ruler up to my screen to measure the distance between the framing and the east tower crane and there does appear to be a slight increase, but it isn't perceivable just looking at it.
