View from the Golden Gateway

This view is from the garden level of the Golden Gateway apartments. If you have not been there before I highly recommend a visit to this hidden gem. I have rarely seen anyone there in the last 46 years that I have been visiting that level. Due to a warm day with light wind there was a lot of blue haze in the sky.

^^^It's photos like this that make me wish we had stayed with the original height of the proposal. Here we have a 1K'+ tall tower, but the perspective next to 600' 101 California makes it appear like part of the tabletop. smh

Isn’t that the nature prespective? Wouldn’t you still have views where the tower appears shorter than it it?

Yes, I get it. I just wish its height were more pronounced/dramatic in vicinities such as Union Square, fidi, etc. I know we can't approach the effect that the Willis Tower or ESB have on their surroundings, but a bit higher in visual perspective vis a vis neighboring towers would be nice while viewing it from other areas downtown.

The tower had to be lowered 130 feet and the city/ Transbay terminal lost out of hundreds of millions of funding $$ due to the loss of square footage because the tower would have shaded union square park in winter time for a few minutes in the morning (during the most overcast season of the year).

I think the height is perfect.

I wouldn't want it taller. Do you guys know the toothpick tower in New York?
It doesn't look good if a tower is too tall.

It really stands out at night time, but LED lighting has become an essential part of the urban landscape and I wished it had more colors.
I really like the Wilshire Grand Center (Los Angeles) at night time.

SanDiegoGuy:
this one isn't done yet, the entire crown is being fitted with LED lighting.

Here's a sample of what it will look like:

A single service elevator that stops at every floor will not be used for an observation deck.

Doesn’t look too overpowering or much taller than the pyramid. A nice complement, like it was always meant to be there and finally found its place.
I agree 100%. What an iconic SF, updated a little.

Walked by today and noticed the Salesforce signage has been installed both on the exterior and in the lobby.

^ Ew. They could do better than that. That's an insult to that detailed facade.

Sunset 11/2/17

The reflected light from the sun is too much to look at directly.

* News from the (Essex) Fox Plaza. Seismic upgrading will be done soon at the (Essex) Fox Plaza with the installation of support beams in the garage and the welding of plates to specific joints on the upper levels. In the residences the plates in question will be in the closet areas. Small patches of drywall from the closet will be opened for welding the plates to the I-beams. Not all floors will get the seismic upgrade. My room is not going to see the upgrade.

After the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake I notice that the building moved differently in the wind for 2 years.
