Sunset Light Show by Mother Nature

The view from my apartment in the civic center of Salesfoce was amazing at sunset. As the sun migrates north & south we will see some seasonal changes in the way the light reflects.

It’s interesting to see different perspectives from various parts of the City. For you, the St. Regis blocks most of 181 Fremont. For me, it’s in line with Salesforce Tower, allowing me a generous view of the shorter tower. Your Fox Plaza is also fully in my view, though I wish it were of the Fox Theatre instead, as it was when my place was built (and three years before I first visited the City during the summer of '67).

Yes, the perspectives of the new towers from each of your areas are interesting. And yes, the loss of the Fox Theatre is truly lamentable. Oh, what I would have preserved if I was in charge!

Goodness me. If there were ever a thread for best Salesforce Tower shots, this'd be top 3.

You need to get out more!

New York and Chicago would be a good start!

I think he meant in the context of being a skyline changer. SF has never had a building this tall. It’s quite prominent from all over the City and beyond. NYC and Chicago already have numerous supertalls so when another one comes up it’s not as dramatic or impactful.

agree - these 2 buildings alone remake the SF skyline...looks like a modern city again

Good point, San Francisco has laid dormant too long!

We are def in a building boom. San Fran, LA and Philly all completed or topped out their tallest towers this year. NYC is building 11 supertalls last I counted, three of which exceed 1,400 feet and Chicago is slacking with just 1 under construction but should Fordham/Chicago Spire ever get approved we will all be marveling at the our first Megatall.

It hasn't been "dormant" but it has had restrictive height limits. Buildings were being built, but just not ones taller than the existing table-top skyline and therefore ones that didn't stand out above that skyline.

The thing that changed that was economics: The need to raise sufficient funds from land sales to pay for the TransBay Terminal. Developers (ultimately Hines and Boston Properties) wouldn't have paid enough for a site on which they could build only to 750 ft or so and, in fact reduced what they would pay when the height came down from 1200 ft to 1000 ft (give or take).

It definitely has been dormant since the 1980s, finally a long needed revival with SalesForce and 181 Fremont (and to a lesser extent One Rincon Hill about a decade ago).

Hopefully the CalTrain station (and future HSR station maybe?) near King St. will lead to upzoning of 800'+ just like was done around the Transbay terminal area. Imagine another 1000' in that vicinity.

on the First St side of the building, (the side that is not the plaza), sidewalk trees have gone in

and a shot of ground level, as that gets gradually uncluttered
