A few random shots around the French Quarter (NOLA) at night...

It says it was a few years ago... i.e., pre-pandemic. There must be another, less sad reason for its emptiness. Like, maybe it's 4 AM Monday morning or the long exposure is rendering the odd moving pedestrian invisible.

What's that old Louisiana saying: A night in the Quarter without puking frat rats from Baylor is like a day in Kyiv without another Chernobyl? Something like that.

The NOLA I know was never this empty at 4AM any morning. They serve liquor 24/7 in NOLA and there are imbibers. Maybe in the middle of a hurricane . . . .

Well, Flickr says it was taken in Early April. That rules out a hurricane. I've seen plenty of empty streets away from Bourbon Street. That first photo is Royal Street. All the drunks are a block over.

Having been raised Presbyterian, I’m no expert in these matters, but a quick check indicates these photos were shot during Lent. Could that explain it? Knowing NOLA, probably not.

It was early in the morning on a week day pre Covid. Ideal time to take photos. No drunks, cars or random people obstructing shots.

Pretty much what I initially expected. Having never experienced NOLA during Mardi Gras, the New Orleans I personally know can be pretty quiet at times.
