I feel like it's worth pointing out that Pearl no longer intends on preserving the existing buildings:
Quote:
Pearl’s original proposal also called for not only preserving the historically protected buildings like the redbrick townhome at 121 S. 19th St., but the street-facing aspects of its neighbors — the three four-story beige buildings at 113-19 S. 19th St. — which would have served as the tower’s entrance.
But that plan was eventually discarded.
“They were saying they would keep the facades along 19th, but then later they let us know that was not going to happen,” said Paul Steinke, executive director of the Preservation Alliance of Greater Philadelphia.

How are they able to do this when one of the structures is on the Historic Register? Does our Historic Commission actually do anything anymore? Are all four buildings coming down or just the ones not on the register?
Edit: it
appears as if though the red brick building on the corner is staying, while the others are being demolished. The corner building is easily the one on the block with the most architectural merit, but its immediate neighbor to the north is also fairly nice. I won't cry over the other structures. We'll have to see though, too often do we hear anymore about an adjacent teardown destroying a previously protected building.
