Here's another photograph that I believe is new to NLA.

While I was locating the source again I found an additional photograph that shows the interior of Mayor's.




Looking at this photo my Dad would jokingly say "Don't Do It Buddy."





They forgot to order a set of hands for the interior clock.

One location included in this slide group has been visited several times on NLA. (no doubt because it's so darn cool)







Welch's, 4401 Atlantic Boulevard (on the north-west corner of the intersection with E San Antonio Drive)



Some photogarphs show a large neon palm tree and the word 'restaurant' on the cylindrical area, but I don't see it here. (it actual looks better here, without it) *





I would have left out that rectangular 'stained glass' area too. (merely my humble opinion ) -on second thought, maybe it isn't stained glass. Does anyone know for sure?

I can't go on without mentioning the great looking cab. (I wonder if it drove the photograph to the location)

Anyone have an idea what the building is next door? (it looks like it might be an auditorium or modern church)

No er that's not stained glass...that was the waiting area. The round part of building is the bar. It was discreetly hidden from the restaurant customers. I had dinner here several times....they always were very kind to kids. It was mostly seafood...served on a plate that was placed on a wood serving tray...so cool.

Thanks for the information CBD. You were lucky to have eaten there. It's such an interesting place.

For some reason I thought I remembered a photograph of the circular part and there was a stained glass window visible. (obviously I was thinking of a different place )




Here's a closer look at that rectangular area. (hmm, I don't even believe it's translucent)



I definitely would have left it off if I were the architect/designer. -the round form is so beautiful in it's simplicity (reminds me somewhat of the Ford Rotunda in Dearborn MI)
on a much smaller scale of course.

(again, just my opinion, be it ever so humble )

Bob Lemon is the Hall of Fame pitcher and former New York Yankee manager who grew up in and then lived in Long Beach throughout his playing career and in retirement.

Another parking lot, with another '55 Ford. And its still a parking lot, or lots--same view recently, taken from Ivar Street. (The "El Capitan Theatre"
sign on the building at right confused me aqt first....)

PS Is it me, or has Google Street View become much more difficult to use (again) lately? Can't turn many corners without encountering a white box...

Me too! Me too! I've eaten there. It was not too terribly far from my father's office, so on celebratory occasions that was one of the places on the possibilities list at which to meet him after work. All I recall is that it seemed very dark inside to me.

I had to laugh: I've been in the Long Beach area too long. Half-awake, I blinkingly looked at those "unknown Long Beach locations" in e_r's initial post, and said to myself, "Hm. Those feel like Atlantic." And then . . .

Although it looked like one of the Case Study houses, I wouldn't have known which one if CBD hadn't told us. Armed with that information, I knew where to find more images.

This is a selection from Julius Shulman's "Job 2980: Case Study House No. 22 (Los Angeles, Calif.), 1960".



I'm guessing that the image in the Moby video was by Julius Shulman, because there's a similar view showing the same '55 Ford in this set. The picture below shows the front of a different car, but not enough for me to recognize it.

Yes Hoss, there is indeed a private road gate installed there now. I do not know when this was done. Six homes are now located on this ''private'' road.

That would be a '57 Plymouth.... (I'd have kept the Ford.)

Glad to see there was more to this house than first appeared. From this angle, if you told me this was a house made from a couple of old sea bins, I'd believe you!

The comments sections in other sites I visit and many other places on the net quickly turn into political cesspools completely unrelated to the original topic so it was very refreshing to have found this thread which has managed to steer clear of that. I'd also like to see it remain that way.
