That's pretty normal. They just finish the floor around/over the hole in the after the crane is removed.

I believe it’s owned by the Scientologist and is not related to 22Rio!

Ha. That photo sums up West Campus. Historical homes surrounded by high-rises.

That looks like a new surface lot. Why would anyone build that?

At first I thought this was the 6x thread and was surprised it was already above ground!

That's such a bizarre scene. The house appears to be just a few feet from the building, though, I know it's more than that and is just the angle. The two high rises will be right up against each other.

Surface lot may be used for food trucks.

That would be a good use. I was thinking scooter parking. But it would also be a good site for a future 300' apartment tower.

This is SO GROSS! Hell's Kitchen is far more inviting that that! A true example of one area going up and one area going WAY, WAY, WAY down. I used to live in a house rented by me and four other guys on Longview Street back in my college days. West Campus was a LOT OF FUN back in those days, particularly wondering around the old LUSHLY FORESTED neighborhood after midnight, checking out all the drunk frat boys and the hippies, tripping on LSD, who were invariably being followed by herds of befriended cats. All of THIS CRAP should have been built around 45th and Airport! We lost a GREAT neighborhood!

That would be a very long walk for students!

If you walk in this area you'd love it. It's the only area that seems mature (surprisingly with all the young people about) to me. Very pedestrian bike friendly and livable. You still get all the trees and character with the old houses but with better high-rises and new restaurants instead of shifty low rise apartments that are falling apart.

Outdated land use rules give us outdated results. The Church of Scientology has added space to their building on Guad and to adhere to the old code (has been fixed to nix parking requirements in West Campus) they had to build a garbage surface parking lot that they didn't want and we don't need.

Hard to believe in 2020 we'd still have four council members blocking Austin from tossing our 36 year old land use code and adopting one that promotes compact and connected development that fosters tax base, transit, walking, sustainability and more housing near employment centers. Feels like Groundhog Day...

That's interesting and sad. But maybe they will eventually be able to sell it to developer who wants to build a 300 foot tower. I just don't care for the idea of a cult making a lot of money.

Was this one casually renamed again? I thought this was originally 22Rio. It's so hard to keep up with all the West Campus projects these days.
