I was thinking specifically of women's rights in places like Iran or Saudi Arabia. They used to be able to do things that they can't anymore, like driving. If I was them, I'd certainly feel like someone had stolen my rights.

Probably not cheaper in money, but less time which is money #1, #2 this is Winnipeg, how much red tape to get plans approved to build a new tower? time again is money #3 enviromentally amazing. the carbon saved by not making new concrete alone should get them awards. if the basic structure is sound , why does the world want to throw it away!

There are more costs than cash. How long to tear down and then rebuild. In that time how much work could be done on reworking. How about the wonderfull city zoning. So much easier to get a renovation permit than getting the city to approve a new building, examin the Architectural drawing, back and forth. New build people have say on zoning, maybe the people would say if you tear it down you need to make is smaller and include some green space. lots of things to consider other that cash!

Too far away from completion. Once the know when people will be moving in and they can get display suites up, they will make a big splash. don't want to delute the potential buzz by starting too soon .My opinion only !

Looked like they were setting up another crane on the west side today. I assume getting ready to start balconies there

Definitely slicker without the balconies, but let's wait for the finished product to judge. I think it's going to look pretty good in the end.

Agreed. The balconies in an unfinished state takeaway from how nice the windows look, but I feel confident it'll all come together in the end.

Post installed balconies are always going to look a bit clunky in this sort of mid-rise application.

But, they are there for the renter and to improve value of the units being offered.

Better apartment in an ugly building > worse apartment in a pretty building.

A place for people to store their bikes and lawn chairs haha. At least there should be some good views downtown.

With those balconies, it's as though the building is morphing into the old Sheraton that used to be in the building across the street.

Ugly balconies aside. This will bring further life to the area, which is great.

I'm torn on the balconies (aesthetically). On one hand they should help with the proportions of the building. On the other, they kind of obscure the nice brick and glass - which I find to be incredibly attractive. All things considered though they've done a wonderful job with this building. I was pretty skeptical.

I also think the double height units will be a really unique offering in Winnipeg. I'm looking forward to seeing the interiors and floorplans. There's just something so wonderfully posh about sitting in a living area with double height windows looking out at a city. Unfortunately, given the placement of the building it doesn't have great views, but hopefully that improves with time.

I would have died being cooped up in this highrise for over a year without a balcony. At least I can get fresh air and sit outside. Tall buildings are a nightmare in a pandemic.

With the balconies at least you have some hope of being able to clean the windows yourself instead of waiting for the management company to do it every couple of years. Highrise windows get pretty grimy.

Looking great although I wish they'd invested something more in the brick cladding (either replacement or touching it up somehow)
