That line in the middle of the building is indeed the brick angle. It will also have a flashing on it to drain water at that point. Will show wet whenever it rains as the water wicks back up the stone. That's pretty typical for all modern masonry buildings.

I think that the drip line (and eventual resulting dirt line) actually adds to the aesthetics, it makes the brick work look even more glacial by adding a silty striation line midway up the facade, like a glacier or iceberg would have. When I saw the image my first reaction was that was a clever addition by the architect.

The signal pole will run right up the middle of a huge window into the ground floor commercial space and the sidewalk canopy will have to have a gap in it. It's going to look terrible.
You would think there could be something done, such as hang the light from the building if absolute need be. That's extremely common to be that close to each other in the downtown.

But alas, too much red tape for the City / Hydro to go through for that.

I always thought this was a cool project but it has still exceeded my expectations. Just a beauty. And those statues are a great touch.

Interesting how this type of new cultural institution can garner interest for such lists.

Thanks for posting this! Great to see some more recognition for Winnipeg's newest attraction.

With this really spectacular new addition to the WAG it's a real shame that directly across the street is a derelict-looking parkade with no prospect for redevelopment...

The building is great but I am very leery of any projections due to my ptsd from the CanadIns logo.

Fear not - my understanding is the projections are a time-limited thing to promote the new gallery. I think they run until March 27.

Haha...how long before they give in to the temptation to slip in a few Winnipeg Supply and Pizza Pizza ads into the rotation of arctic scenes

It has some nice pictures of the interior that I hadn't seen yet.

Turned out really nice! The third new tower on Colony will fill that gap nicely. Any idea what the status is on that one?
