Hard to tell. Current height? Construction still moving forward despite all the happenings of 2020?

Such a weird, awkward massing and flow to this tower. I don't get it's design.

I could see that, it's grown on me though.

I still don't really consider it second tallest globally since the roof is "only" 500m, just above Central Park Tower in NYC. Shanghai Tower is still king IMO.

The design of this tower is what I always felt futuristic buildings would look like! It does have an odd flow to it, admittedly, but I'm just wanting to see it lit up and completed!!

The design is based off of an iconic image of Malaysia's first prime minister once independence was declared.

It's explained in this video.

This building is 1WTC's tall, slightly awkward cousin

A lonely supertall surrounded by only short buildings, and a very exaggerated height claim based off a giant spire, lame lmao

^Yep, just like Kuala Lumpur's former "tallest building in the world", the Petronas Towers, or the current "tallest building outside Asia", the 1WTC. The CTBUH should revise their criteria, which I think were developed in the late 1990s in part to settle whether the Petronas were taller than the Sears Tower. Since then these criteria have been so awfully exploited so many times that they should be reconsidered IMO.

I wholeheartedly agree and wish we could help influence a change. Building height should be to the top of the actual crown, mechanical screen, or readily accessible area (like the Empire State Building), not counting a stick stuck on top.

I’ve seen it in person several times; it’s different but quite striking because of its dramatic height.

I do agree that the addition of the stick to the top of this building seems more like a gimmick to make it officially much taller than it really is and I also agree that the rules need to be changed so this doesn't keep happening. However I think the design of the tower is quite striking and futuristic. I travelled to Kuala Lumpur way back in the 80's and it was an impressive and modern city even in those days. I think this will grow on people and become an iconic addition to the skyline!

China is notorious for this. It's one thing I hate the most about development. A random Supertall in a skyline filled with 500 foot towers. Almost like a vanity tower.

Ok guys, this isn't the thread for your gripes about spires or antennas.

Thank you! That was very informative and now I get it. The engineering is incredible and appreciate the symbolism. Will have to see it completed with the spire to truly appreciate the design, which is still quite awkward, if not awe-inspiring to me.

The height is good but 2,000' towers should be sleek and dignified. This thing is all topsy-turvy. It looks quite weird from most angles and is very prominent (I saw it every day on my last visit to KL a little over a year ago).
