cantilevered scaffolding looks quite precarious...

I'll try to remember to bring my camera tomorrow for close-ups

I found this quote from the article to be very interesting and new information to this forum I believe.

"The 87th story is 28 feet tall and clad with a grill that will appear solid from the ground while allowing wind to pass through the tower at this elevation. The blow-through effect directly relieves a portion of the wind force but also disrupts the flow and amplitude of wind forces for several stories above and below. Along with the switch to porous roof screens, the net effect of the blow-through level is a 24 percent reduction of the cross-wind lateral response."

So it sounds like the blow-through level will not appear open but will be clad in a grill and the top screen will be porous and not a continuation of the glass. I don't think we have seen renderings that depict these features. Hopefully they are handled well as to enhance the overall aesthetics of the building and not detract from it.

Based on the awesome grills they are putting on the mech levels it will probably look awesome.

I was driving North on LSD today, and saw a face. The grill forms the mouth while the light glass bands higher up form the nose and eyes. Now I can't unsee it

Just found it in this photo from last week

I'm curious as to why the crown doesn't have the same angle as the rest of the top frustrum.

From today (5/16)

I've been shooting too much lately, ha. I dashed over to Navy Pier in hopes catch the early afternoon storm. The shelf cloud din't quite hold together by the time it got to the city, but the view of Vista was pretty nice. Today only further cemented my position that this building will look its best when it's overcast.

Here are the storm shots I tried to take:

Late 80s Helmut Jahn would approve lol the colors look similar to his low-rise projects in Evanston and Naperville!

A couple of things about late 80's Jahn - he was original and he was not afraid to take chances. This tower embodies that. If anything, this tower's glass design is more conservative than 80's Jahn, but at this height and design, there is no other tower like it in world. Original, unafraid, tasteful this tower is.... I love it!

Fantastic BOLD addition to an iconic skyline.

Wishful thinking, but they might be able to light the area now! or even allow residents to wander inside... doubt it

In order to accommodate the sloshing dampers:

This tower looks much better in overcast weather than in sunny weather. Just my 2 cents.

Chicago may not have the highest or the most skyscrapers...but my God, they have the best skyline. I remember seeing the skyline in person for the first time(as a non-child) in 2004. I was amazed by it and continue to be today. I know you guys are spoiled when it comes to skyscraper construction, but I think you all should be extremely happy and grateful to have such a beauty being built.
