Picked them up from the airport, then straight to Duck of Duckworth for... easily Top 5... fish'n'chips and fi'n'chi'n'd in the city.
Then out for a soft night, cocktails and beers with minimal dancing lol...
Brunch at Mallard Cottage in Quidi Vidi...
Followed by a tasting at the Quidi Vidi Brewery...
We also checked out Bannerman Brewery...
The Catholics let us in but the Anglicans wouldn't...
So we did some lounging in Bannerman Park...
And walked around the core...
Then they went across the island for a week in an RV - hitting up everything from Gros Morne to L'Anse aux Meadows. In the meantime, I had a few family gatherings with cousins...
And jeddy1989 and his man had their wedding shower...
When they got back, we went for a drive north of the city, from Middle Cove Beach to Pouch Cove.
We stuffed ourselves at Bad Bones Ramen...
We stuffed ourselves at Adelaide Oyster House...
And then suddenly it was their last night here, and they were off...

This was a cute little cafe with some good home baked sweets. Would stop here again for sure. Was fun to have a good old full Canadian breakfast with french toast, fruit salad and a bunch of sides. Also nice to sit out in the morning sun.
Why does the glass colour change half way up it's spire/steeple/horn/proboscis thingy? At first I thought it was unfinished...

Nice Princeton pics Metro. Driven through there a million times on the way to Vancouver but havent walked around too often. I love the dry surroundings in that area.

I'm thinking this ranges on the scale from a piece of shit to hopefully not resulting in permanent damage to the retinas, but "gorgeous"?
It looks like an ancient church with a bell tower, doesn't it? They only put some contemporary materials to it.
Otherwise, the design seems sort of inspired by the ancient church architecture to me. Strictly religious buildings even had to be designed so they'd look like a cross (a torture device, right?) from above in the old ages; that might not be the case here, though.
They wouldn't that far nowadays.
You're not alone in your opinion. I'm no church goer either, even though I often have to say the Lord's prayer for myself in the subway; just when I have to give some money to beggars down there, which always feels embarrassing and frequently occurs over here.
The CMHR is a fairly polarizing building. The main view (south face) is quite beautiful in my opinion, but the north face of it is monstrous. Though I do understand that both sides are symbolic (a doves wings protecting a mountain I believe?) to certain indigenous cultures.
Mohkínstsis — 1.6 million people at the Foothills of the Rocky Mountains, 400 high-rises, a 300-metre SE to NW climb, over 1000 kilometres of pathways, with 20% of the urban area as parkland.
I'm very over the attention-seeking deconstructivist thing even at best, and the CMHR is isn't even a good interpretation of it. Feels like a poor man's Gehry (not as bad as this one though).
Still though, definitely not one of the ugliest buildings in Canada. And the interior is actually quite impressive:
