No, I couldn't do anything that funny. My brother showed me that video a few months ago and I knew it would make a great intro to a Barrhaven photo tour.

The amount of construction out there is absolutely insane, the only other places I've seen this scale of construction are in the GTA and Calgary.

The problem I have with Barrhaven is that it doesn't give you all the things you would hope for in a suburban area. If you're going to live that from everything (people call it Farrhaven), wouldn't you want a single detached home with a yard? Most of the construction in Barrhaven is attached housing, some of it with no private yard.

What's the point of Barrhaven? Despite big improvements to transit (transitway extension and new routes), it's still hard to serve because they keep building winding roads with few exits to arterials. It's still not walkable, everything is far from everything else. It has high density but you still have to drive everywhere.

One thing I can say for Barrhaven is that the new schools look great, and there are some nice parks. They also have the Walter Baker sports facility, which is top notch and has every sport you can think of.

Did you get lost on the way home? this looks way to suburban for you. This looks like the crap they build down here in Houston.

Awesome pictures Flar... I know Barrhaven really well but I cannot for the life of me, figure out where picture number 1 was taken. I've gone over all the railway crossings in my head and can't figure that one out!

^^It's Woodroffe Ave looking south toward Barrhaven. The intersection ahead is Fallowfield Rd.

I feel stupid - I've lived in Barrhaven for 25 years and that still doesn't look familiar to me. The placement or the railway crossing, the Scotiabank in the distance, ect - I just can't picture that angle being Woodroffe looking south.

Nice representation of the 'Haven, though. It's a developer's dream.

I've quite enjoyed your Ottawa photo threads - keep it up! Perhaps a tour through Westboro/Mechanicsville/Hintonburg when the weather warms up?

Thanks for those shots, exewau. I've seen a couple of those stone houses, and there are quite a few in the Ottawa area, especially along Richmond Road.

Extreme telephoto compression.

Hintonburg was my first Ottawa tour, Westboro and other places are still to come. Complete index of Ottawa tours:

Seeing (what was then called) the Corel Centre from the highway, I couldn't believe how far from Ottawa the Senators play.

You're welcome Flar - made a nice change from the concrete and rebar on the Wellington at Island Park thread!

LOL, great thread.

Probably a good place to be a kid, though, with all those ponds and building sites you're not supposed to be in.

It's kinda like the look that Saskatoon's going for...that or it looks like Ancasters older brother. Always wanted to see how generic Barrhaven was...now I know...thanx for the tour Flar!
