What's with the date erected on the Bank of Montreal in the fourth picture? "MDCCCCXIII"? It should've been "MCMXIII". It's like called Super Bowl 40 "Super Bowl XXXX".
because its a date

It took me a while to figure out what building in Picture #57 was. The hint was the reflection in the glass (You make out the Place Louis Reil Hotel in the reflection)

It is the Credit Union Building / Ikon Building (Triangle shape building)

LOL, when I saw this title I thought maybe Toronto (the supposed "centre of the universe mentality) or maybe New York (centre of population, business, culture, etc. for North America). I didn't think that you meant the literal geographic centre.

That aside, fantastic photos Flar. I liked that fish eye one and the shot of the Union Station Winnipeg the most. But every photo was nice & classy !

That is actually only a very recent rule. It was not widely observed at the time the sign was carved. Clocks often have 'IIII' rather than 'IV' because it's easier to read: it's the same thing.

i wore white bucks on my feet when i learned the golden rule.

it's amazing how overstocked a town such as winnipeg is with inspired architecture. not least the spacely sprockets building. 1961? and how.

Thanks everyone!

Winnipeg is a real city, I really enjoyed my visit and could spend weeks exploring the Peg. The Winnipeg Clinic building (#53) really stood out to me too, as well as Manitoba Hydro (#3), and of course the Exchange District is amazing. I'm glad this is getting lots of views because I suffered to get these shots--Winterpeg was living up to its name!

Believe me, I know that feeling and appreciate how it makes the excellence of this set even more remarkable.

Winnipeg Clinic was actually built in several stages between the early 1940s and 1959. I don't know whether the fins were part of the 1940s iterations but if they were it would be quite an early example of that sort of thing.

I think that perhaps the fact that Winnipeg was home to one of the only architecture schools in Canada raised the bar a bit when it came to design (although the bar fell pretty badly after the 1970s, thankfully being raised again in the last 10 years or so).

Absolutely wonderful!

One of, if not the best thread I have seen on the old Peg. I can't wait for your next one.

Winnipeg's such an interesting city. It really does have a unique identity rising like a lonely island a long long way from any other big city. As someone else mentioned, Winnipeg has loads of potential. Such good bones!

WTF?!?!? How is Winnipeg not a real city?

Great shots Flar. Architecturally, I am jealous of many of Winnipeg's gems.

What is going on with this building?
