Atlanta - from an architecture students perspective

Ok, so to start off, let me say these are pictures from about the last couple years that I've been an architecture student at Tech. They are generally in chronological order of when I took them. Enjoy (hopefully).

The view from my apartment, taken on move in day.

A reference to Tech.

The Biltmore

A view I see often, from the Atlantic Station Target.

From the 5th street bridge.

Tech Square.

My home, the North Ave apartments - the 96 Olympic Village

Panorama from my apartment.

No big deal, just after an architecture all-nighter.

Buckhead behind Atlantic Station, from the Gatech library.

Tech Tower

Even though the moon looks photoshopped, it's not.

191 Peachtree

Georgia Pacific Building

The Marriott Marquis by John Portman

The morning after the snow storm last year.

The city was pretty much abandoned.

Tech's Brittain Dining Hall

Peachtree Street

Snow on the rooftops

After yet another architecture all-nighter

Some views from the roof of the High Museum

Peachtree Street

Peachtree Street

So I hope you enjoyed my view of the city, and eventually I will be uploading pics from my exploration of the Atlanta Beltline and more.

Nice collection of photographs. I like the skyline over the lake pics the best. And the snow pics.

So I did walked the Atlanta Beltline in 4 walks over a series of 4 weeks last winter starting at the northern most point and going clockwise. In case you don't know, the Beltline will be a 22 mile loop around the city consisting of parks and transit. Also keep in mind that a lot of progress has actually been made since my taking of these pictures, and that winter is really not Atlanta's best looking season and the lack of green really makes the city depressing.

This post will contain my pictures from my first walk showing the NorthEast corridor of the Beltline. I noticed only the first half of the Beltline is uploaded here, but the rest will be up eventually: http://s1201.photobucket.com/albums/...cpZZ1QQtppZZ24
Also this is not the complete set as I did not think all were good enough or relevant to the thread.

Where the journey started - Lindbergh City Center.

Keep in mind large parts of the Beltline are still very active rail.

GRIT.

Part of the Piedmont Park Expansion project (this portion is now complete)

Art on the Beltline - under a bridge

City Hall East - the future Ponce City Market

This area is under redevelopment and when complete the large open lot there will be part of the Old Fourth Ward Park.

The Old Fourth Ward Park phase I under construction, now complete.

The Old Fourth Ward Skate Park - now complete

More Grit.

Entering the Little 5 Points area

The Vortex Restaurant/Bar

Back to Reality - on marta

More to come!

And we're off again,
This post will contain the SouthEast portion of the Beltline, one of the grittier sections of the Beltline.

It's slightly difficult to get good pictures on Marta, but you can see Buckhead in the background of this one.

An interesting house

Glenwood Park

Treehouse?

Ya know, Grit.

Notice inside the Grit

Umm..

The new Stanton Park under construction, now complete

Under the Connector

View from the Marta station

Back to downtown

In the Marriott Marquis yet again

2 More Beltline Posts to come, although not as soon as these last ones were

Loved the thread. Atlanta is such a strange beast to me... I think it's just that their skyline is so spread out...

I love Atlanta's mix of grit and shininess. I also get tired of people talking about the skyline being spread out. It's three distinct districts: Downtown, Midtown, and Buckhead. Piedmont Park (and that crazy beautiful view) is one of the best urban parks in North America. The city also has some of the best graffiti artists.

nice view and thanks for the pics. if that large lot by city hall east is turned into a park, where will you park for shows at the masquerade?

Great collection. You represent Atlanta very well!

I'm intrigued by the Transit/Park beltline. Do you have a map of it's planned route??

link to the Beltline map (from the MARTA Website). It's huge or I would have posted it.

Here's a link to the master plan for the park: http://www.h4wpc.com/images/master_plan_phases1-2.jpg

As for where you would park, I heard they were having that issue with the masquerade, but I don't know what the solution was. I'm not under the impression that the parking situation is having any effect on the park, or its completion.
