Wow, there's basically NO old airport left.

What a bittersweet photo.

The info on the site about that photo states there is nothing left standing. I thought I read that the full demolition of the airport wouldn't be finished until June. If everything is truly demoed they are 3 months ahead of schedule. It may not actually speed up the construction but to have that out of the way should help a little. Not having both demolition and construction crews on site getting into each other's way will help.

I thought I read that, too. I was surprised to see that they had already finished demo.

On a side note, I wonder how likely it is that they would add the tram to the central tunnel during this phase, seeing as how they saved around $300 million because of the pandemic?

Seems stupid *not* to add it now. Think of the disruptions when they (in the future) have to close the central tunnel to install the tram.

Not for 2034. I don't think Winter Olympics to be there. They already been there before. It's been nearly two decades ago.

Thanks for the pics!

Still bummed about 2 things with the new airport. I still think the terminal frontage is way to short and small for a major airport and i'm really bummed no train is planned for the central tunnel for a very long time

Actually, they will build a trams later in the near future. Once new concourse C is being built. After they constructed concourse B East is completed.

These images are massive, so you'll need to scroll to the right to see everything.

So it's sad to see it go, even if it's for a greater good. The new airport is a wonderful place for Utah to have.
Heard that.
My dad would take us out just to watch planes too.
That was the 60's before the freeway, so you took North Temple straight out, and there was an industrial building with the front end of a smaller plane attached above their front door. Right around, say, 22nd west. Us kids always tripped on that.
There was just the one main terminal with 2, maybe 3 concourses.
Western Airlines was the main carrier. United had most the rest .

One of the nice parts of the new SLC is how much you can see from outside security. Not quite as nice as pre-9/11 but quite good for half the A-gates. So maybe I can take my kids (someday; as an above-median-age dad) to the new SLC to see the planes.

Thanks for the update. It doesn't look like we are too far off from TRAX service to the airport being restored. Is there an estimated date for that?

Last I heard it was supposed to be finished by July.

The future expansion of the North concourse looks a little stubby.

Weren't they considering making it larger to the east?

Right now they are pretty much building to create the main tunnel plus a few additional gates. In the future they will build a further expansion on concourse B to the East. My guess is the future will be after they finish concourse A completely and what they are currently working on on concourse B.

Then shortly after that future expansion is done, they will likely start on concourse C. Long story short, airport construction may not be completely finished for many years to come (just a guess, no inside knowledge).
