Doesn't look like the latest render made it into this thread:

Holy crap! When I saw the name for the proposal, it sounded like a luxury tower, but this seems to be so much more in terms of overall design and cladding!

The windows? They appear to be window wall and curtain wall (yellow 'lit')

Surprised by the positive responses on this thread, the general range of feelings about the design everywhere else ranges from "meh" to "total garbage."

It could be though that I'm getting worse at picking up sarcasm online, but then again, Sarcasm-Over-IP was never a good networking protocol to begin with.

Edmonton's Tallest Residential Tower Granted Approval

Quote:
The developer behind The Pearl along Edmonton's Jasper Avenue will soon begin work on an even bigger project, following a city council vote on Monday that granted approval to the Emerald Tower development. The 45-storey condominium is set to become the tallest residential tower in Edmonton.

Most residents of the Oliver neighbourhood who attended the public hearing voiced opposition to the project, citing its height, lack of affordable and family-friendly units, and the above-grade parkade facing Jasper as problematic elements of the plan. Their comments echoed those of city staff, who also believed the $200,000 CAD developer contribution for community amenities — itself a jump from the initial $50,000 offer — was insufficient. Mayor Don Iveson was a notable opponent of the current plan, stating that the sculptural expression of the tower and its design were "not up to the same standard" as other recent proposals.

Is it actually going to look like the rendering?

Well The Pearl turned out pretty good so maybe this will be an ugly on paper and okay in real life. We can only hope.

Much better. All it took was a bit of tone down in the colour scheme. Can't wait to see 40 or 50 of these built across the inner city!
