Proposal for added density @ King & Catherine. Architect is Thier Curran Architects. Materials proposed include stone along the ground floor with metal panels above in three colours.

Nice, this building can definitely use some refurbishment and more people living downtown is always a plus

I was very recently refurbished on the outside.

I've heard from close sources that the inside units did not get the same treatment. At all. Hoping that will no longer be the case after this.

Looks like they'll be re-redoing the outside.. again.. I kind the look the outside got.. well except for the stucco part.. didn't like the stucco part, but I did like the columns of brick to break the monotony.. added density is always good though..

Also this will allow them to strip that weird 3rd floor finish off at the top with the metal cladding.. and restore the facade of the front building to the left, which is currently covered in posters and signs..

Also what kind of materials do you mean by metal panels? Do you have any examples of existing structures to compare to? Also not sure I am liking the nautical circular portholes at the top...

It's too bad the Rock Universe closed. Those shops are generally pretty nice. I never saw the one on King Street, but the two in Burlington and one in Brantford are pretty decent places, generally manned by nice people.

I believe they are long strip panels going from up to down - it looks better than the elevations made it look for sure.

Why not carry the red brick down the side street at current height of existing.... The Red Brick lofts might be more meaningful name

^Yeah, that building has a fabulous brick pattern that they should mimic on the renovated part.

That proposal's pretty grim, really - from a colour perspective, that is. Nothing worse than beige...

I'd even accept something like the red black and white pattern they got going on on the top of the william thomas building on the side.. or a giant mural - something to give that giant blank space some character..

tbh it's kinda sad.. the refinish they already did to it is rather nice.

Beige gets pretty dirty in this city.

^^ I am sure there are quality brick layers in 2018 that could handle, just need will and vision of builder to create something that stands the test of time and attempts to bring a unified or cohesive look.

So what are we saying? That we aren't as skilled as we were in the past, so everything is built cheaper as a result? What does that say about us as a civilization?

Also how much of rocket science is it to pattern lay bricks? Doesn't seem like it would take a rocket scientist..

what I mean, although it may be possible, it's too expensive, hence the aluminum shed that is rising from it.
