The Bronto Skylift articulated aerial unit, nicknamed “Tower 1” by Toronto Fire Services, can stretch up to 70 metres/230 feet – approximately 23 storeys high – making firefighting in high-rise buildings a lot easier.
Guess that makes anything below 70 metres a low to medium rise. Yep, it would take a fire to get me to climb on that.

i'm a little confused. Wasn't thing done not that long ago?

I like the symmetrical layout of the planters and the plants/trees. I don't like the benches and concrete (?) edges.

Square Philips looks great. Look even better when foliage fills out.

I remember watching them film a segment of Just for Laughs Gags. Fake cop pulling people over.

This could not exist in Toronto without being over run by skateboarders. All those long smooth concrete benches, planters, etc would be a skaters wonderland.

No, you must confused it with some other downtown squares that have been revamped recently (Square Dorchester, Place du Canada, Place d’Armes, all by Cormier - Phillips Square is by Provencher Roy).

Square Phillips is going to look great. It's probably the coolest of all of Canada's downtown squares (I'm not counting Place d'Armes), I would say. It's a tight and busy square and you're surrounded on all sides by interesting buildings.

Oh wow. That's going to be quite something. Barely even heard of this!

Clearly the symbolism of "The Big O" has great significance to Montreal.

That was fast. I thought this had only been proposed/approved a few months ago. Unless I missed something, damn these Montrealers work fast! hah

It's interesting how the ring is fastened to the matching buildings on either side. It gives it an architectural quality in addition to its character as an art installation.

I've always really liked that view looking up toward the looming hill and castle-like hospital framed by buildings on either side. And I guess if you like something it makes perfect sense that you'd put a ring on it.

I've seen it today and pictures don't do it justice. It's really impressive. It looks like it's floating in the air.

A couple photos from around the Cogswell interchange construction in Halifax.

You can sort of see the public space taking shape here as the road infrastructure gets cleared out. Note the cheesy retro concrete archway that says "Granville Mall". I remember the era when municipal politicians were enthusiastic about putting up signs like that as a placemaking/beautification exercise; that moment seems to have passed.

Years ago there was an uproar when the buyer of that warehouse building with the white stripe painted over the ~100 year old stenciled "Morse's Teas" lettering. Apparently they wanted to rent out the space as advertising or something? But it's still just a white stripe. For a while around the 70's or so it was a large neon sign.

I thought this one was interesting too. The dead end is Cogswell so that will be opened up by the work. The modern facades on the right are pretty senseless; they replaced old facades of similar size of a similar architectural style to the buildings you still see there. That narrow brick building on the right is 1 survivor of a set of triplets. The brick one on the left is CIBC.

Anyone else suddenly have the Stargate SG-1 theme song stuck in their head?
