I've heard Baku is up to some serious stuff... but THIS?! WOW!
Knowing Azerbaijan's richness in natural resources I have few doubts that at least some of that is actually going to get built. Way to go.

Are there any illustrators who would be interested in drawing the buildings on this thread? Currently none of these projects are on the Baku diagrams page.

I would particularly like to see drawings of the Sky Park and Flame Towers. Thanks in advance.

Zira Zero Island

Zira Zero Island is a 1,000,000m2 master plan for a carbon neutral resort and residential development on Zira Island located along the Caspian Sea. As a young post-soviet democracy, Azerbaijan is rediscovering its national identity by imagining Zira Island as an architectural landscape based upon the country’s dramatic natural setting.

That's a pretty impressive development. All this stuff is. I might not like all of them and the urban planning doesn't wow me, but they DO show a city that has its sights set on a brighter future, a city that believes in a better future.

Zira looks amazing. I love the carbon neutral aspect of it all. Hopefully it will stay as proposed.

That Baku stuff looks...wow. It looks like Baku's trying to position themselves to be the socio-economico-culturo-political center of the Caucasus region, too. Good luck, the whole place is a tinderbox worsened by Russian meddling (especially in Georgia).

P.S. In my opinion, the question of whether Azerbaijan's "European" is deeply invested in the question of whether Turkey's "European". The Azeris and Turks share the same ethnic roots and cultural tendencies; should Turkey ultimately be denied EU accession, it would create a dangerous precedent, from Azerbaijan's perspective; if, on the other hand, Azerbaijan managed to enrich itself to the point where EU accession becomes a real possibility while Turkey remains in limbo, this hypothetical accession would create a powerful precedent for Turkey. To Turkey's perspective, thus, setting up their ethnic brothers, the Azeris, to be the player in the Caucasus is an entirely beneficial Xanathos Gambit since the politics in play viz. the Russian Federation and the EU would provide key accession benefits or it could create a powerful Turk bloc in the region that would stand on its own qua the other key blocs, the EU, Russian Federation, the Arab bloc, and Iran. In any event, the emergence of Azerbaijan as a key economy is a win-win situation not just for the Azeris but also for all Turkic-speaking peoples of extreme southeast Europe and Southwest Asia.

P.P.S. Azerbaijan actually has the oldest republican tradition amongst traditionally Muslim countries. Most people think Turkey does, because of Ataturk's efforts, but in reality republicanism was alive and well in Azerbaijan long before Russian takeover and eventual Soviet repression. Azerbaijan's a small country with a powerful shared history in that respect.
