Agreed. The reason why many of us are "lost with all these new proposals" is that they are all roughly in the same height range, so none of them really stands out. Eventually someone will want to stand out, and the best way to do that is to have a roof height of at least ~1700 ft. Of course 1700 ft is still not megatall, but it's easy enough to add a spire to reach 1968.5 ft (600 m).
“Office buildings are our factories – whether for tech, creative or traditional industries we must continue to grow our modern factories to create new jobs,” said United States Senator Chuck Schumer.

Yes, while it is amazing New York is getting a new ~1400ft plateau, it would be nice to have a focal point amongst it all
I hope that focal point is in Lower Manhattan. Any sort of stellar, exquisite design if it happens, that happens to be a new tallest, IMO, should be downtown or South of Canal Street.
I love that Midtown is getting all of these monoliths, but I wish Downtown had a little more action. The area near the Verizon building is prime for such action.
It’s hard to believe prior to 2012 the tallest building in NYC was the Empire State Building. It stood out in every skyline pic. 6 years later is soon to be the 6th tallest. While I do miss NYC iconic signature skyline of the ESB, Twins/WTC, Brooklyn bridge and Lady liberty, we’re now in an exiting time where our skyline will probably never be complete, just surprising us as it evolves.
All built on demand too. Where other places build on massive speculation and ego, we build on demand. This city is making records, and its all demand based!
Makes it even more impressive as we aim for the top crown.
Nice. At least Vandy has a few years to enjoy the spotlight. And this doesn't even include the Grand Hyatt tower, however that one will turn out.
