I wonder how the completion of the Ring Road in Calgary will effect those numbers. Should effect traffic volumes on a few routes.

It'd take maybe 5-10k each out of the numbers for Glenmore, Macleod, 14 St and a smidge out of Crowchild near Shaganappi Trail.

Major renovations underway on QEII in Red Deer
http://edmonton.ctvnews.ca/major-ren...deer-1.3078960

Quote:
A construction project on the QEII and Gaetz Avenue interchange is now underway to improve traffic flow and safety on the corridor by the fall of 2018.

As part of an $80 million investment from the Alberta Jobs Plan, three bridge structures will be replaced by five new bridge structures, and the highway and intersections will be improved.

The Gaetz Avenue southbound bridge will be closed in late September for the duration of the project. Traffic will be rerouted to 19 Street and Highway 2A (Taylor Drive) to access the QEII southbound.

“Alberta Transportation thanks motorists for their patience and consideration for the safety of construction workers while work continues on this important infrastructure improvement on the QEII corridor. Please observe all posted signage and speed limits and use caution when driving through construction zones.”

Insane... how many decades later, and the city is still tiptoeing around businesses along this corridor?

what, they haven't had decades to look for a new location if the loss of driveway access to a highway was going to kill their business?

pathetic

even more pathetic, while some of the phase 1 closures in the east have happened, recent construction around 89 st was just curb and drain maintenance, not the simple closure I was hoping for...

so yeah, we're actually spending new money to keep that light online

the remaining intersections in the west are fairly straightforward, but a complete overhaul of the east could open up some pretty huge areas for infill development... maybe even house some of the poor displaced businesses from the west?

sadly, looks like the city project directly east of ft rd / YHT is making that near impossible now

Good lord. Compromising the entire city for a few access roads to a few businesses. Excuse folks, but time to understand this is not 1974 any longer.

Just another example of how nimby groups have had too much control/sway, over the betterment of the entire city. Glad to see the city starting to fight back. Save our local footbridge, this sports pub is too damn big, we need lights on the yellowhead or we will go broke... etc etc.

I was bored, so hopped back into my car, drove the Yellowhead from Gretzky to just before Elk Island Park then u-turned back into the city because I wanted to see what the reworked sections of the Yellowhead were like now that the NE Henday project is completed.

Definitely a nice smooth drive, the big cluster of interchanges for Sherwood Park and the Henday feels like you're entering a big city.

Now that the Henday is finally completed - in terms of road infrastructure, the Yellowhead absolutely needs be the top priority now. Interchanges at 127 and 149 are needed yesterday. Intersections at 66 and 142 are questionable - maybe just right-turns only. Now that the airport is closed, they should use the opportunity to make improvements at 107 St and 121 St.

I agree. The City needs to get it done as its a major cross-town transportation route.

Have been considering those new light poles on Jasper ever since they went in, and while I've tried to find a redeeming feature I am sorry, those are just plain ugly. I can't believe that's what we get after 3 years of waiting.

Of all the ornamental light standards that have been installed on various streets in the last 10 years those are by far the worst.

The Yellowhead isn’t just a local commuter highway. It’s Trans-Canada North and the upgrades are overdue.

Unfortunately I fear that the environmental BANANA mentality in Jasper National Park will prevent any Yellowhead improvements within its boundaries. I doubt even the stretch through Robson Provincial Park will have any meaningful upgrades for the same reasons.

^ yup I agree, nothing will happen in the park in my lifetime

At least through Robson there's some decent passing opportunities and a few passing lanes, and the speed limit is 100. The trip through Jasper is agonizing if all you want to do is just get through to the other side

142st intersection was to be closed and the only access to the Yellow head would have been east bound on the south side and west bound on the north side.

^ Good catch, I wonder why that was omitted?

Edit: Probably omitted by mistake - this shows 142 St intersection will be closed:
