I really do not like the arch street side of the podium. Looks like a disguised parking garage.

Well, the metal clad on the office portion sticks out in a triangular form, but the hotel portions metal clad is flat. They could shine, but probably not as much as the office portion

^Damn, I never realized that. You're right - the blue tape on the top is flat. That might end up looking really odd - the contrast between the office portion and the hotel. The office cladding really adds texture and I liked the shine effect I've started to see now that the blue tape is starting to come off. I thought the metal cladding would be the same throughout.

It will be. All of strips of metal were flat and covered in blue before they had the triangular metal put on

Any progress on cooling towers? I know they just put some dampener s inside it. And also do love the reflected metal from afar, never thought of that to happen but it adds a new perspective!

It makes me wonder why people can't just look back to the page one renders to see that these will in fact not be flat. Like I look back to page one all the time just for fun comparing and contrasting.

I'm doubtful. The blue film is protection for finished decorative metal pieces. Why have polished metal if you are just going to be covering them up with additional pieces of metal.

Yeah, the top portion metal cladding is definitely flat and comes to rectangular ends on 18th Street side. As long as it "pops out" some, it should look alright. The renderings definitely make it seem like it will add texture (although right now the blue tape coverings seem really flat). We shall see...

Here is an example of some flat diagonals and with the beveled diagonals on the same photo. Not sure if the flat pieces had blue first, but the beveled definitely did.

diagonals did not have tape prior to the bevels. THey just kinda looked like different color glass.

Exactly, the diagonals are actually just differently tinted glass as opposed to the flat trim pieces seen on the hotel portion:

I do like the brushed aluminum look of it and is reflective to sunlight. From afar, I think that's what makes the CTC stand out aesthetically.

Unless you're saying something different?...the diagonals are NOT "actually just differently tinted glass" - but in fact 3D triangular metal panels. The picture you posted was from the Reagan Administration - pre-panel application.

I think that's what he's saying...before the triangular panels were put on it was tinted glass, the same can't said about the hotel portion. So the hotel portion panels are already 'on' as flat brushed aluminum covered in blue tape and won't be having the triangle panels added.
