What a stunning neighborhood. I stayed at the Days Inn on West Diversey when I was in Chicago last summer so I did get to see some of Lincoln Park... clearly not a lot of it though as most of the stuff in this thread is new to me. You did a great job of showing the streetscapes, you definitely get a sense of how well-put together the neighborhood is.

This block in particular caught my eye:



If the rest of your neighborhood tours on Chicago are as high-quality as this one then we'll be in for one hell of a series on the Go.

Although it's full of Chads and Trixies, Lincoln Park has a lot to offer culturally. Not only is it architecturally dynamic, it has some of the best restaurants in the country and it's retail options would rival many mid size cities in this country. It's not my taste but, it's a jewel.

Thanks for the great photo montage of one of my most favorite neighborhoods in the city. I love the streetscapes there with the high number of well-kept two, three, and even four flats, beautiful row homes, and a mish mash of larger old apartment/condo buildings.

And I must say I like seeing the streets so clean. This time of year it's certainly not unusual to have dirty grimy snow & slush creating quite a nuisance to pedestrian life. But everything looks great!

I wish I could live in two places at once. As much as I'm enjoying living in DC, I still miss Chicago every day. I don't want to choose, but obviously I have to and for the time being I'll continue to remain in DC. But it's great to have photo threads like this to brighten my day! (and of course the occasional trip back to Chicago to stay with friends helps as well)

BTW, is the first photo from the auxiliary exit from the Armitage station? The staircase looks rather narrow, though I guess if it's just a down exit, it's not too big of an issue.

Indeed it is a beautiful neighborhood, I just wish the infill had been more modern. IMO Wicker Park's development in the 2000's was much more impressive because of this.

Although the newer frenchie second empire infill/teardown replacement stuff is somewhat jarring in contrast to the otherwise classic/forward urban American feel of much of Chicago. Mansard roofs never looked comfortable in Chicago to me, anyway. They seem out of place for a city obsessed with getting shit done and a melding of function and form, and the old examples even look a little dishonest - like a grudging nod to the fashion that the city deep down thought was bullshit.

I'm young (24) so please forgive me, but isn't this sort of stretching the concept of gentrification? I'm legitimately curious. I mean, how "ungentrified" did Lincoln Park ever really become?

Yea that's the Armitage Stop. I'm not sure but I think it operates as both an entrance and exit. There's two sides though so one might be wider than the other....
