Wish we could get a Trader Joe's a bit further up, in Windsor Park.

Did you know that Austin’s celebrated Mueller neighborhood used to be an airport? Yeah, sure, laugh it up — you might think that’s common knowledge if you’ve lived around here for a while, but what if you got here yesterday? The only two remaining elements of the 700-acre neighborhood that really hit you over the head with this history are the Browning Hangar and the former airport’s midcentury control tower, which still stands behind a fence near Berkman Drive despite the unfortunate demolition of its surrounding terminal structure.

We’ve been wondering what the future held for Mueller’s tower since the early 2000s, and now that construction is underway on a 345-unit apartment complex by developer Ryan Companies essentially surrounding the tower site, there’s a bit more clarity on how the tower and its immediate surroundings will be transformed into a public space by Mueller’s neighborhood developer Catellus, with an outdoor plaza designed by landscape architecture firm Studio Balcones.

Hanks is Windsor Park, not Mueller.

The building is leaking like a sieve due to poor workmanship at the window and sheathing waterproofing and the brick must be removed to redo all the exterior waterproofing. This also happened at another building at Mueller.

The scary thing is that if this is happening at Mueller which, in theory, would have strict design standards and regular inspection, imagine what might be happening at the cheap "luxury," gulags developers are throwing up all over the metro area.

Our local government is a friggin disaster.

Not sure if you're being sarcastic but I wouldn't go that far, at least not based to any great extent on this situation

As an aside, we should be getting the final reconciliation on the Catellus payout to the city soon (some sarcasm here)
.

This has nothing to do with the City or Catellus. Normally, when something like this happens, the owner goes after the architect and contractor to get it fixed. In this case, Amli self performs all of their own construction, so they have nobody but themselves to blame.

... correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't the city inspect buildings for safety and code violations and aren't they in charge of giving the certificate of occupancy?

...

...

Don't be a shill.

...

...

I repeat: our local government is a disaster. Buildings like this should have never received a certificate of occupancy, due to the mold risk from shoddy construction. Sounds like they were paid off by a developer to overlook problems.

not familiar with this project but it's more likely than not that the brick is really an ornamental "brick" with stucco like plaster behind it. which is tricky because if ANY moisture gets behind it, it will pretty much all have to be redone.

this has nothing to do with govt or safety inspections. it's very hard to install from what i've heard and can be easily missed.
