Wow, those are nice. I'm assuming the 2nd one was shot somewhere around Southwest Parkway.

Greetings SkyscraperPage posters, my name is Jose Lozano (I saw someone posted my Victoria Noll stop-motion music video highlighting Austin landmarks earlier in this thread, thanks!) and I was forwarded to this forum from another member at City Data and Skyscraper City that suggested I add my project to this forum as well, so here goes:

Since March of 2009, I have been photographing the construction of the W Hotel, the new Austin City Limits Studio, and the residential condos currently under construction on 2nd Street in downtown Austin. Much like several of the other time lapse videos I have worked on in the past, I created this video by taking photographs from several vantage points and edited it all together into a time lapse video documenting the construction over time. I'm trying to get the project out there to the public so check out the video below and feel free to share with anyone and everyone!

Video Link

When it is finished in December of this year, the W Hotel and residential condos above it will come in at 36 stories high, making it one of Austin's tallest buildings. In 2011, the Austin City Limits Studio will move to it's new location, greatly increasing the seating capacity from 300 to 2,000. Great news for all those people like myself who stood in line at the UT studio location, only to have my hopes of getting in crushed

Anyway, I hope you enjoy watching the video, and if you dig the music, check out Morris Orchids... they are great friends of mine from San Antonio and a band that you definitely must listen to!

These are just incredible shots. So beautiful I'm almost sick.

I wish I were in Austin right now.

Some Youtube finds. Views from the 59th and 60th levels in the mechanical penthouse of The Austonian.

Video Link

On this video around 4 minutes, the guy says "It's not moving at all, no vibrations." The building has a tuned mass damper. I guess they were testing it something. Tuned mass dampers are basically giant pendulums that counterbalance the building's sway and vibration. The Austonian is the first building in Austin to need one, since they're typically only placed in very tall buildings.

I'm scared of heights, and even just looking at that second video gave me the heebie jeebies. Cool find, though.

I'm scared of heights too, still though, it's not that bad when you're walking around on a building. You still feel safe, and that's the important thing. It's when you're walking on a 2 foot ledge or maybe a spiral staircase with a long view down. Those old fashioned fire escapes give me the creeps. Walking around on the rooftops of skyscrapers is easy though.

Thanks priller... I noticed some of the photos you've posted on here were shot from almost some of the same angles I shot for the time lapse video. Good eye!

That first picture of Frost is just amazing. I like the other HDRI in this thread also. Looks like I need to post a few pics (HDRI if I can):

Great pic. I noticed tonight that one or two of the Austonian's amenity floors have been lit up... your pic captured that. If they light up those and the mechanical floors (from the inside), I think the crown lighting will look great. Would be dissappointing if the searchlight thing doesn't happen, though!

As an aside, we REALLY need to be updating the wikipedia image for Austin. I say we do it NOW. Either TXAlex's image or LoneStarMike's recent one from Joe's Crab Shack would be perfect! Either of you want to allow permission?

Wow. Very nice shot, TXAlex. I was downtown today too, and took some photos. The lighting this afternoon was great.

Ok, guess I haven't. Has that really been the pic since Feb 14? If so, great work whomever. My mistake...

Thanks, I thought the light was pretty great that night. Were you on congress bridge at some point?
