NP, I like to park in front of the Victorian era houses. I should have taken a picture but was in a hurry but I'd say there at least 15 to 20 feet deep give or take a rough estimation.

Nice. Five more months of excavation followed by a few months of vertical construction, and we will begin to see this one rising above ground.

Doesn't look as deep in daylight as it looked in the dark. Probably only 10 maybe 15 feet.

Snapped a pic this morning from about 10 stories up. It will be fun to watch this one go up.

That lovely late 19th Century streetscape due north of 6 X Guadalupe will be forever transformed. The view looking out from there will be the back of the massive parking structure for this gigantic building.

Better than looking at a giant parking lot and a dumpy Extended Stay Hotel!

Probably not much of a trade off for the few residents up on the hill. Their view will consist of blank rear wall of the ginormous parking structure and the addition of a big shadow for parts of the day. Hey, I am glad 6 X Guadalupe is going up, but I always loved the solid Victorian architecture on that hillside coupled with the retaining wall view of downtown. It was a sweeping view of downtown that largely looked over (rather than down upon) the Extended Stay hotel and parking lot. Check it out before it is gone for good.

I think most of those old houses are being used for office space and are not actually being used as residences. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

The Bremond Block is what you are all referring to. It is a historical intact block.
While most are indeed Offices now, that could always change back as we have more folks coming to Austin who could afford to live there. The apartments and houses to the west are all residential.

The point is not totally what they looked at on the 6X block. Its the view they historically had south across the river to the hills and across town. There were still peaks a gaps.
But it was the sense of space when you stand there. ( Which I hope everyone who is commenting has done, if you haven't; do so quickly . It's one of the coolest views of downtown) Now that they will stare at blank concrete the atmosphere will be forever changed.

I too and glad for 6X , but to not have a sense of Architecture past and present and how it interacts and affects the inhabitants is a bit unfortunate.

So get there quick. And then go back later. It will still be a really interesting contrast of old and new. But it will be quite different. It will be a fun place to photo the contraction. And then the fun will be gone along with a sense of space.

It's one of my favorite spots DT. I try to park there if there is a space free and I've been known to sit on the wall from time to time and gaze from the east to the West End. While the view west will still be in view the tower will block everything south and southeast.

One of my MIL’s neighbors In Taylor grew up on the Bremond block in the 1910s-1920s. Unfortunately her family home was demolished in the 1950s or earlier.
