I like the design of this better than 1 wtc. I hope this finds enough tenants to get built to full height tho...

Could this be the most symbolic and economically important project in America's history ? ? ?

So is this tower getting built? Or are they just preparing the area for when they do start building it?

some people like to word it better than it really is, but truthfully they're just finishing digging. Once thats done, concrete footings will be delivered to the site and below grade construction will start, eventually with however many basement floors they are (i'm guessing 4).

There's only one way to word it. They're building up to street level, which means the sublevels of the tower will be built. It will then have to rely on traditional financing before construction moves beyond that, meaning a tenant will have to be found. So yeah, for at least a year and a half (or so) it will be under construction.

If you look closely in the photo, you can see that the tower is not quite under construction yet. More blasting and excavation, same as with towers 1 and 4.

What do they have to make additional clearing for re: 1 & 4? More underground stuff I would think?

...or am I misunderstanding what you said, i.e. that it's foundation work time now 2 & 3 just as it was for 1 & 4?.

Those rocks look like a bitch to carve out and move out. I wonder if they take the removed rocks and sell it to companies.

World Trade Center

Quote:
From high atop Greenwich Street where it cuts through the World Trade Center, the drilling rig didn’t look like much. But to see the size of the men, who scrambled across it like ants on a corncob, it must have been a serious machine, capable of punching a grid of melon-sized shafts in the exposed bedrock. Even the sound, which must have been a racket, was lost in the general hubbub of the massive construction site—the clanking of steel, the shouts of men, the whining of crane hoists.

“They’re drilling the footing for Tower 2,” said Dara McQuillan, senior vice president of marketing and communications at Silverstein Properties. “Once the drilling is done, they’ll blast out the hole with dynamite. It’s a delicate process, because they can’t displace the active subway lines below us here on Greenwich by even a quarter of an inch.”

They break it up on site and use crushers to create gravel to fill holes and stabilize/level the ground.

the above is from Aggregate Pros and isn't from the WTC but you get the idea. There are photos of similar crushers in many WTC shots.
