CORKTOWN: An urban neighbourhood in Hamilton
Corktown
Hamilton, Ontario
Corktown is one of Hamilton's oldest neighbourhoods. Nestled under the Niagara Escarpment just southeast of downtown, Hamilton's early Irish settlers lived here and worked on the Toronto, Hamilton & Buffalo Railway (TH&B) which passes through the neighbourhood. The former TH&B station now serves as the Hamilton GO Centre. Corktown has lost a great deal of its early housing stock but there are still decent pockets of old houses mixed with 60s and 70s apartments. There is also a nice row of authentic pubs on Augusta St. These photos were taken in Fall 2008.
