Just wondering how many bent over feeble people will park in the new garage and make their way across Summer St inch by inch with a walker

The location for the parkade is atrocious from a hospital patient/visitor perspective. There is also supposed to be underground parking in a couple of the new buildings but the parkade location is about the worst one possible. There was initial discussion of a pedway or underground walkway to the QEII building but no mention of it here. I would have more confidence if the whole thing didn't seem to be drawn up on the back of an envelope the night before the committee meeting.

Having said all that the Bengal Lancer issue is insignificant and I imagine the Wanderers concerns can be dealt with easily enough. The Museum will likely eventually need to be relocated. As always, Halifax hates any change.

Alternatively, why don't they build up? Why does the new hospital have to be a sprawling complex? Even just a few floors on each building

Excellent idea... maximize the space used... they don't have to just build because they have all the space.... None of this makes any sense...Building a parkade without any direct access to a Hosptial - so thoughtless, and the place where they are proposing it is so wrong. There is more than enough room to build a huge parkade and build on top of it for the hospital.... They should get someone who knows what they are doing to design this.... so frustrating....

The common land seems to be treated like it's "free" from the perspective of government planners. Citadel High also used this land in a very uneconomical way.

I'm in agreement - putting the parkade in that location seems like the worst idea ever, from all perspectives: land use, convenience to users, etc. etc.

What the heck is the provincial government thinking? The health care system is in crisis, and yet they continue to manage it in a bonehead manner, including, it seems, the design and management of this new hospital infrastructure.

What you are seeing is typical govt thinking, and while PNS has generally been a shining example of bad thinking and planning, all levels of govt are guilty of this to some extent. In this case I believe it is being driven by several factors - the typical PNS penny wise, pound foolish syndrome ("building upward on top of a large parkade would cost 50% more, Minister!" "Well, we can't do that then."), a complete and utter lack of any appreciation for what patients require, and solutions driven by technocrats rather than a balanced view from a broader base of stakeholders. The parkade location is disastrous for the disabled, those with mobility challenges, and, y'know, sick people, who tend to frequent hospitals. One wonders how much thinking actually went into this. Did anyone consider realigning Summer St, combining two power plants into one, or otherwise using the area more efficiently? It would seem not.

Derek Martin was just on NEWS 95.7's Rick Howe Show.

He would like to see a permanent stadium on the Wanderers Grounds of 12,000-15,000.

That would push the Friends of the Common over the edge.

HFX Wanderers FC's 2020 Macron Home Kit incorporates the city's love for music into the jersey's design with a soundwave inspired by the song "Barrett's Privateers"

This was to be expected. Seems like a great use of that space, and a great venue for the city. It's too bad a full-sized stadium can't be fit in there. Maybe it would be possible one day with some relocation of nearby buildings or some creativity. For example Bell Road could be realigned a little and the stadium could extend to the museum parking lot or even extend over the museum a bit. There's a lot of space there.

Cue the band "Mason and The Screamers" to enter from stage left to oppose any such improvement to that space.

If only they noticed the huge success of the first season at this location and used that as indication. But no, Dartmouth Crossing is the obvious best result.

I don't believe any site other than downtown is a good one... all the hotels, restaurants and parking are already nearby in the downtown.... Scotiabank Centre benefits from this... it is too bad a stadium couldn't be built in the Cogswell lands ....

Which coincidentally is about the same size the CFL team is talking about on one sideline. Are we finally talking convergence?

One sideline would be far from ideal for soccer, and it would never, ever fit on the site.
