how many of you out there agree that this is perhaps the best-looking building added to the NYC skyline since the age of the greats (early 1900s-1930s)? My third favorite building in midtown, after Chrysler (naturellement) and ESB. It is so fresh and elegant, much like I.M. Pei's Bank of China tower masterpiece in Hong Kong.

This is a great-looking building, but the NIMBYs destroyed it.

A landmark tower, but, having cut the height from 1,250 ft. to 1,050 ft., the NIMBYs neutered its skyline presence.

Unlike most residential supertalls, the public can access the tower, which is nice. The base is part of the MOMA expansion.

Jean Nouvel’s MoMA tower inspires a titanium necklace
Anna Hu’s Sky Tower Jadeite necklace links Western and Eastern culture in an architecturally imposing tribute

BY HANNAH SILVER
August 3, 2020

Quote:
The distinctive silhouette of Jean Nouvel’s 53W53 MoMA tower – which is soon to be the new international home for Anna Hu’s eponymous jewellery brand – is already inspiring the New York-based jeweller.

Hu has just unveiled the Sky Tower Jadeite necklace in titanium, which translates the tower’s structural core into a geometric pattern of triangles which curve around the neck. ‘Titanium not only interprets the shiny exterior of the building, but also provides more flexibility in terms of coloring,’ explains Hu. ‘We can anodise titanium and get interesting colours – for example, the green colour shows off the beautiful imperial jadeite in the center.

I've been to Hong Kong 3X and if it weren't for the Bank of China building I'd probably skip over Hong Kong. I walk around the building, time after time, peering up at this splendid work-of-art building. IM Pei should have built it up even higher.

Are the mismatched glass colors at the top ever going to be fixed?

Looks better but some shades are still a little off.

I think this may be my favorite post-war tower in New York.

Agreed.

Absolutely stunning.
