Wright comments on the studio's awful acoustics; guests couldn't hear the panelists, and they couldn't hear the guests. I've watched a lot of these segments and this problem apparently went on for years, although Wright was the only guest I saw who pointed it out.

Not to spoil the clip, but panelist Dorothy Kilgallen sort of accidently guesses Wright's identity. What was her appeal? She seems very unappealing. She often whined about the rules, or being confused, or not being able to hear.

I liked Kilgallen plenty. I'm not sure why. Maybe b/c she was very outspoken and didn't seem to be making any efforts at being society's idea of a "good girl".
She was also a New Yorker and reminded me of The New Yorker, a magazine I was devoted to.

The cars have changed and the 'Jump-n-Jive' is gone, but the 2011 view is amazingly similar. The Gower Gulch strip mall has been in place for about 45 years and is well maintained.

I recall that much salvaged timber, from the old Pacific Ocean Pier, was used in building it

It's too bad those small trees hide the main entrance to Columbia Square. See how much better it looks in the vintage photo,
when you could see the CBS sign over entrance and the thin horizontal line of windows.

All the aerials below show Columbia Square in the top-right corner, with the parking lot across Sunset. I didn't spot the Jump n' Jive Record Shop in any of them, but maybe someone else can. In the first view from 1948, the NBC Studios are the large white building just above Sunset on the left, with the circular drive-in below it.

The 1952 view is virtually identical to the one above, so I've skipped ahead to 1964. Sadly, both the NBC Studios and the drive-in have gone. Notice that the area above the CBS Studios near Selma is now about 50% parking lot.

By 1972 the developments on the NBC Studios and drive-in sites is complete. The area above the CBS Studios is now all parking lot. This is the last image that shows the parking lot south of Sunset before the mall.

The mall is visible on the 1977 image, but it's not very clear. I decided to go with the similar 1980 image instead.

I'll finish with this angled view from the Aerials Over Hollywood video which is from the mid-40s. Columbia Square is roughly in the center at the top. A bit of the Taft Building is just visible in the lower left corner.
NB. The video is well worth watching, but some/all of the footage is mirrored, which can be confusing.

Now I am interested in this hodge-podge of buildings just north (and behind) Columbia Square.

The first developer wanted to destroy Columbia Square. He finally relented but planned enormous towers, which would have overwhelmed the Lescaze complex. He came a cropper and sold out to the current developer for $65 million (a good price). Now the whole project is massively scaled back, which is great. I heard Viacom is taking two of the new buildings and others are interested. Columbia Square looks to be set for success. What a cliffhanger.

"L. P." may have stood for Lamanda Park, which became part of Pasadena, although that's not where Annandale is.

This is from Pasadena, California: The Ideal Home City (Pasadena Board of Trade, c. 1913). It describes
the Annandale course as being just west of the city (Pasadena):

We never bought furniture there, but I've admired that building for fifty years now. What I love about the building is the clock. Because of it, I've always called this place "Georgy Seele".

I haven't been by there for a while, but last time I passed by, it was still being rented out as a film location (or at least the sign advertising that was still on the door).
