Contractors Owed $11M on Drive Shack Golf Complex in New Orleans

https://www.levelset.com/blog/drive-...tors-owed-11m/

I think this ever opening as a Drive Shack is unlikely at this point. My guess is Drive Shack goes away as a brand and Top Golf picks up some of their assets for a cheap price including this one.

Sucks that COVID killed this project just as construction was really getting underway. Agreed that TopGolf should jump on the opportunity.

I'm interested to see if Top Golf will try to get this property or if they try again for a location on the Convention Center land. It should be a much easier sell to the state with Jaeger no longer developing a rival venue, since it seems that what killed it the first time. I would think the convention center property would be a lot easier to lure tourists to. The Baton Rouge Top Golf always seems to be packed so I'd be surprised if New Orleans doesn't have a location somewhere in the next few years.

At least if they got this spot millions have already been spent so they can have it up and running for much cheaper price than building a brand new one by convention center.. plus what else will current owners do with this property? Top Golf can make it work here, and lets be real after Drive Shack fails what other brand will try to compete against top golf

Why construction on the high-profile Drive Shack project in New Orleans has stalled

https://www.nola.com/news/business/a...82c02a3f9.html

...However, the owners ordered construction to stop in April as the pandemic took hold and closed down much of the economy. The bills have since piled up.

Durr Heavy Construction, in a lawsuit filed on August 31, claims it is owed more than $2.3 million, before interest and legal expenses, for work it had done before the April 10th order to stop work.

Durr is the largest of the sub-contractors on the project and it is suing the general contractor, Little Rock, Arkansas-based VCC, as well as two Drive Shack entities that control the project, and 3800 Howard Investors, a company that owns the land that is being leased to Drive Shack.

VCC has also sought liens against the project owners for more than $7 million it says it is owed, while Durr itself has liens against it from companies that it has sub-contracted for work, according to Levelset, which tracks construction industry data...

Jaeger said Tuesday that he expects the Drive Shack payment dispute will get resolved in the next couple of months and work will resume.

"Drive Shack is working something out with the (general contractor) on payment and when that's done I would expect that the (general contractor) would pay off the liens and any and all lawsuits will be dropped."

Drive Shack's general counsel, Nicholas Foley, said in an email that the company wouldn't comment on any litigation, but added: "Drive Shack remains excited about the New Orleans market and still has every intent to finish this project, despite the delay caused by the pandemic. Further, we appreciate the positive working relationship we continue to have with our landlord and general contractor.”

Surprisingly good news assuming they aren’t lying.. guess we will see in a couple months.. but i feel like they wouldn’t say this to the news unless they had some confidence...

What will it take for New Orleans to get a true regional transit system? I can definitely envision Orleans, Jefferson, St. Tammany, St. Charles, St.john and St. Bernard coming together with funds to invest in RTA and build a network of Bus routes and construct a monorail or elevated light rail.

Monorail/ elevated light rail station At the air port with stops at Clearview development and lakeside mall then ending at UPT then from UPT stops at UNO / SUNO then Somewhere near High rise / Gentilly Blvd area then Read Blvd near lake forest plaza site then sixflags site then Slidell stop Near fremeaux shopping center or north shore square mall.

Expand RTA bus service ( rapid bus lines ) in St. Charles, St.John , St. Bernard and St.Tammany ( Covington & Mandeville connecting them to monorail station in Slidell )

The monorail / elevated light rail can help spur economic development at sites like lake forest plaza, six flags and north shore square mall while also better connecting the regions population to manufacturing jobs in the river parishes and the north shore and connecting the river parish’s to the city center for big events like games and conferences.

This can also be a pitching point when the region is trying to lure corporate Offices and major tech offices as well .
