time for some more...

down by the airport - its a popular place to hang out - must have been a dozen cars - mostly families just watching the planes...

strathcona - is the neighbourhood just east of china town - which is a mix of interesting old houses, low income, yuppies and house flippers - book ended by some social housing or what locals call the projects - the entire was apparently slated to be knocked down and filled up with apartments and social housing but never happenned except for some at the east end and the west end of strathcona - the area in recent areas has really changed much more vibrant and more families and quite colourful fixed up houses

wikipedia

a lot of the houses/buildings have heritage status and plaques

this is a cluster of houses - look to be from the 70's or 80's

disco ball hangs outside this one

funky little cafe - i don't recall it being there a few years ago but looks nice

from the 90's

seems like a gallery space

a lot of these old houses were covered over in vinyl siding or stucco and have been fixed up to their original state...

a catholic church - says 1905 but looks like it was built in the 60's

part of the "projects" as we call them - social/low income/welfare housing - which is actually really nice looking and well kept - its a mix of towers and low rises

It's crazy how the 90s are starting to be 20 years ago already!
Also, I wouldn't mind living those projects at least from now nice they look from the outside.

this is a house - kind of austere

i don't know if these are condo's or like a seniors housing or low income or coop housing...

ukranian cultural centre

a lot of the houses the ground is below the street level so they have these walkways and some just put full deckspace to fill the hole/gap difference in height

i kinda like these they could look really good if they were redone

this used to be a utility building i think and was decommissioned and converted to condos

korean church

school fence

time for some more - these are new west - about 30 minutes south and east on the skytrain from downtown - one of the oldest cities in BC

the towers are new - the white building in front was pretty old - they have demolished about 95% of it - why they are bothering to save the little bit... it will become a shopping centre with a safeway, drug store, movie theatre complex etc.

this block is pretty much empty and a lake has formed

water feature

new west is home to some great old buildings and is used in a lot of movies and TV shows

Used to be a big paddlewheel casino tied at the dock and this building was used to access it - but the casino moved elsewhere to a land based one and it now pretty much sits empty

this is a cool old building = plans to develop it into loft apartments but never ahppend - the upper part is vacant and has been for years

this street in new west has a large concentration of bridal shops...

new condo hard to see by the pic but they have tried to tie into the street with different elements of finishing

this used to be a police station and post office and was converted to lofts

used to be my bank now its some union office as the bank shut this location down

Well damn how could someone not like Vancouver. and I personally love their architecture in their highrises, comes off as futuristic to me!! (Question, are a lot of the streets really that quiet or do you just try to avoid taking pictures of people?? just curious...)

but here are some more from monday - which ended up being a great afternoon

this is a pop-up restaurant called 100 days - thats how long it will last - anyway they have used spray paint all over it inside and out as "Decor" poor plants even got the paint treatment
