What would the buildings’ theme songs be? I’ll start with these two:

Clockzilla: For Whom the Bell Tolls - Metallica

The Rooms: When I’m Up - Great Big Sea

To be fair on the renovated Edmonton Central Library, many more buildings look worse and the inside looks really nice. The Venetian would kill it in a contest of ugly any day, or Park Square or this thing by my "favorite" local architect.

Dunno about theme song, but here's the movie scene that should be dedicated to the Human Rights Museum in Winnipeg:

Princess Towers is obviously "The Tower" by NoMeansNo.

That's probably the most flattering picture of The Venetian that I've ever seen!

Maybe a controversial opinion, but for me one of the worst is Fort Garry Place in Winnipeg.
Everything about it is just so awkward and off-feeling. All the architects needed to do was show some restraint. But no.

What year is this?
Is there such a thing as too many statues?
Vents are basically windows, right? (tbh I thought we only did this in Halifax!)

It just feels like peak late-20th century Bad Architecture to me, and I've never been a fan of the towers themselves either.

The towers are pretty average, but the podium itself is world class horrible.

I have to agree with that. 100 years from now if that building is still standing people might try to save it from demolition because it is a one-of-a-kind building.

Call me crazy but I kind of like Robart’s Library.

Then again I am a sucker for brutalist architecture (find it to be very under appreciated at the moment).

The Venetian and I quote was that 'the developer wanted to leave a legacy of Italian heritage and design' on his city.

Edmonton will be a really culturally interesting place in 30 years when some fringe art movement embracing the hideous aesthetic takes hold and a bunch of indie films get made starring cool 20-year-olds in the Edmonton suburbs. It happened in Las Vegas, you bet it'll happen in half the cities on the continent.

Maybe they can clad the Edmonton Library in brown stucco to help improve it.

Absolutely not. Edmonton's most mediocre attributes must be preserved in amber for this to work. It must keep its current appearance for the next 40 years. People will look at it the same way we look at the worst architecture of the last 30 years today. The people of the future will thank us for perfectly preserving a monumental cultural artifact of what may well become known as the Pre-Pandemic period, or the Empty Period, or the Post-Postmodern era of architecture. I really believe the highest achelons of architecture are headed for a truly new movement very soon, and the Edmonton Library must be preserved as a relic of the easily-dismissed quiet zone between the Recession and the Pandemic.

I’ve never seen a human being so closely resemble a penis in real life.

Nice choice for the Venetian.

How is it that Italy spawned the Renaissance and yet the Italian diaspora seem to have such tacky awful taste? From the guidos of Jersey Shore to those who I assume built the centurion mafia mansion in Brossard. Perhaps in that sense the ‘legacy to Edmonton’s Italian heritage’ is perfectly on point?

I like this idea. It’s already kind of starting with West Edmonton Mall.

I think Edmonton’s central library’s song should be Spaceship Superstar by Prism:
