Atlantic Canada Driving Videos

I finally got around to editing some of the dashcam videos I took the last time my family was home in the summer (in 2018). I'm slowly uploading them to YouTube, and figured the best thing to do was open a new thread for anyone who wants to add their own as well.

All of mine should be without sound, though if I forgot to mute the soundtrack when editing the video, you'll get to hear my wife and I talking or my kids screaming in fast forward.
(Trust me, you don't want to hear that).

First, I have two from the Ingonish area that are already uploaded. I'll add the others periodically as I upload them.

A long one this time. The rest that I upload later will all be from the urban areas, mostly Sydney-Glace Bay-New Waterford region. Hopefully we can get home again soon and we can do the northside and some other trips, maybe the communities on the Mira...

N.S.-105 actually looks “urban” beyond N.S.-162 towards Sydney. I find it interesting that there’s a huge difference in traffic volume on the 105 across the 162.

After 162 on 105, you enter the suburbs of the major Northside towns (North Sydney and Sydney Mines). Before the bridge is Millville-Boularderie, with Bras D'Or and Little Bras D'Or just across the channel. If I continued straight instead of going into Tim Hortons after turning left at the lights, that would take me to Florence which is the largest of the suburbs on that side. Going straight on 105 instead of taking the 125 exit brings me directly into North Sydney and plant me at the NL Ferry. Taking the opposite direction exit than I did would bring me directly into downtown Sydney Mines.

All of these communities combined still account for 15-16,000 of CBRM's population, plus the more rural areas and fairly significant exurbs like George's River. It's tough to know exactly with the change from "Urban Area" to "Population Center", which are similar but different enough to change the boundaries that used to be used.

The “Regional Municipality” in the name is quite telling.
“It’s not just your farmland county anymore. It’s an ‘urban area’ now.”

This covers most of the areas I talked about. Off screen are North Sydney and George's River. If you zoom out or pan East-Southeast, you'll see where this lies in relation to the other former towns and city of the CBRM.

I was slightly familiar with that area because I had a proposal of N.S.-105 realignment (4-lane) in that area. You might have commented on it too.

Just as a refresher, here it is:

Yes, I remember this, though I don't know if I had commented or not. I think it was posted before I was able to become more active again.

The first one that goes through the downtown. Unfortunately, parts of this are quite dark as we were trying to get the kids to sleep. I have lighter videos that show most of these parts, I'm just not sure if I have any of Membertou as I think those were on a card that got accidentally deleted.

Route: Victoria Rd, exiting Whitney Pier into Ashby via the overpass. Disco St. Prince St with a stop at Sydney Shopping Center. George St (entering downtown). Dorchester St. Charlotte St stopping at Kenny's Pizza. Byng Ave. George St (exiting downtown). Argyle St. Alexandra St. Towerview Pl (entering Membertou). Maillard St. Churchill Dr stopping at Tim's in Membertou. Terry Way (exiting Membertou at the T-intersection). Martha Blvd. Regional Hospital Blvd. George St. Prince St. Victoria Rd.

A longer one, but mostly through urban areas of the CBRM. For some reason the first playback I did only had 360p, I'm not sure if the others did the same so I'll be double checking, because they were all saved as 720p.

Left the SPAR Walmart onto Kevin Quinlan Ave.
Went East on Grand Lake Road (Trunk Highway 4), turns into Sydney-Glace Bay Highway roughly after CBU (it's always been somewhat unclear exactly where), then turns into Reserve St in Reserve Mines which starts just after Airport Rd to YQY.
North on Main St in Reserve Mines due to traffic backup (we had intended to continue into Glace Bay).
West onto Official Row, which turns into Centreville St and ends in Gardiner Mines.
North onto Gardiner Rd (aka Gardiner Highway).
West onto Seaside Drive (Trunk Highway 28) which curves North into River Ryan.
East on Lingan Rd (Colliery Route) into Lingan.
North on Hinchey Ave, curves West into New Waterford.
North on King St (wife wanted to see some of the housing stock in New Waterford).
U-turn.
East on Ledrew Ave.
North on Stanley St.
East on Atlantic Ave.
South on Douglas St.
West on Hinchey Ave.
South on King St (rejoining Colliery Route).
West on Plummer Ave (downtown New Waterford).
North on Heelan St (Trunk Highway 28 until Daley Rd).
West on Ellsworth Ave, turns into New Waterford Highway after second curve (at New Victoria boundary).
West on Daley Rd in New Victoria to go down to the water.
U-turn.
South on New Waterford Highway (rejoining Highway 28).
Victoria Mines boundary just south of Fort Petrie.
South Bar boundary at MacKay Brook (aka Second Brook).
Side-trip on Liscombe Point Dr (newer subdivision in South Bar).
South on New Waterford Highway (rejoining Highway 28 until end of video), turns into Victoria Rd in Whitney Pier after S-Curve (Deadman's Curve) ending at First Brook.
Video ends around Connaught St in Whitney Pier (Sydney).

There were choppy waters in the harbour on this day, and they are clear in the video through South Bar to New Victoria. Also, we actually made it into Dominion and part of downtown Glace Bay on this day.

Whitney Pier
South Bar
Victoria Mines
New Victoria
New Waterford (including downtown)
Lingan
River Ryan
Gardiner Mines
Dominion
Glace Bay (including part of downtown)
Reserve Mines
Grand Lake Road
Sydney (SPAR into Whitney Pier)

I have a couple more from this particular trip, though I was checking an old hard drive and found out I have some from a previous trip as well, including the trip between Fredericton and Sydney if I'm lucky, which will be highly sped up of course.

One of the only ones I have with Downtown Sydney in it, especially in daylight. I'm working on some older videos, including a few highway ones that include areas outside of CBRM. I may re-edit some of the ones I've already posted at some point, if I can find decent music to include with them (personally, I usually have my computer muted anyway because there's no point having the volume on with my kids...). If I do, I'll either re-post or edit earlier posts and let y'all know.

Venturing outside CB for this one, again an old one taken in winter. At some point I'll put the whole drive from Fredericton to Sydney up here, though I have some more editing to do on the full video.
