1140 Harrison

9/23/2020 - the construction crane has been removed for this very large building.

UCSF Research & Academic Building at SF General

I noticed that the new project at SF General broke ground recently. It's not exactly a super exciting project, but I get inspired anytime a parking lot is torn up / infilled.

It looks like it's still pretty early in excavation but I'll try to grab a pic the next time I'm in the area.

For now, some context:

From 23rd / southwest

From the west

I appreciate the purpose of the building too. Even though UCSF in general doesn’t have the finest architecture on its campuses, we are beyond fortunate to have one of the world’s most highly rated medical and educational centers in San Francisco.

^^I don’t think it’s bad looking considering it’s supposed to be “contextual” with the old red brick buildings.

Absolutely agree with your statement about UCSF. I am under the care of one of their specialty clinics and once upon a time got some post-grad training there myself (certificate on the wall).

300 Block of 11th Street - before & after

9/26/2020 - view of the steel frame (my image) on 11th Street between Folsom & Harrison Streets and what was torn down (Google Earth) to make way for it. Don't know what development this is. If I remember next time I am in the area will take a look. Maybe one of you folks can stop by for a look.

All medical-related professions like nursing and various technologies (xray, lab, respiratory therapy, physcial therapy and so forth) and medical-related science PhD programs I think.

And of course Hastings, across town, which is also doing some building, is one of UC Berkely's law schools.

As far as quality, US News ranks it #2 (after Johns Hopkins) in Internal Medicine and Surgery, #4 (after U. of PA, Harvard and Johns Hopkins) in Pediatrics, #2 in Primary care (after UNC Chapel Hill), #2 (after Harvard) in Psychiatry and #6 (after Harvard, Johns Hopkins, U. of PA, NYU, Stanford and Columbia and tied with UCLA) in "Research". So overall it could be the best in the country (along with maybe my undergrad alma mater, Johns Hopkins ).

yes, I'm very much hoping the real thing ends up looking different than that. kind of a 'what were they thinking' case.

various things from yesterday...

1140 Harrison, which Jerry noted has lost its crane recently, still looks like a big black box for now

the buildings at Eagle Plaza are somewhat of a disappointment to me, made a little worse by the fact that the property owner(s) in the center apparently didn't want to sell(?), so for now at least we have large unadorned facades very visible.

KQED's makeover on Mariposa

in the north Mission, the one at 17th and Folsom

... and peeking out behind it is this one on 16th and Shotwell

on Mission St near 16th St BART

Van Ness BRT is coming along

the little one on Octavia

its sidewalk upgrade

looking north

the one next to Beck's Motor Lodge on Market

timbad - the picture of the development next to the Beck's Motor Loge on Market St. is in the former parking lot which was part of the funeral home at 2238 Market, which will be incorporated into the development. Here is a link of what it will look like;
https://www.buzzbuzzhome.com/ca/2238-market-street

Thanks for giving info. on my post of the development south of Market! I now have an address & picture!
