[Dartmouth] The Gardenview | 6 fl |

http://tealarchitects.com/project/mu...ern-dartmouth/

The new GardenView, located in Dartmouth’s Main Street area, is planned as a mixed-use multi-generational development project serving diverse community needs. The two buildings will include 70 apartments above a market of restaurants, cafes, and other commercial services and are at the forefront of modest cost housing in Nova Scotia.

Highlighted features:

• aiming to be Nova Scotia’s first 6-storey wood frame building
• bench-marking through Efficiency Nova Scotia to obtain a high level of sustainability
• integrating with Ocean View Continuing Care Center
• landscaping a roof-top deck for residents

Things are starting to happen, since power is being disconnected

It would be nice to see the same type of material used on the street facing side. The wall facing up Main St. is much less bland than beige.

This is an exciting proposal that will be long overdue shot in the arm for Main Street. Unfortunately, there is a significant number of ugly and decaying properties between Caledonia/Woodlawn Rd. and the Circ that cry out for redevelopment. The artist's concept for the Garden View property in fact omits the gritty repair shop/pizza parlour next door. Several other properties -- including the Army-Navy club building, the Seasons motel, the former Wacky Wheatley/Doull Books building, several strip malls and, of course, the vacant Ford dealership property -- are all festering eyesores IMHO.

Don't forget pretty much all of the north side of Main st with the various grow op/weed/pawn shops.

Yeah, hopefully this is the first step in improving the street/neighborhood.

Demolition permit was issued last week for this building. Anybody know if this project is slated to go ahead?
