What mostly caught my eye was the cabin-like greasy spoon called 'The Corner'.

I'm still driving the google-mobile around trying to figure out which corner this is. (there's also a liquor store....you can see the blade sign by the stoplight)

-it's obviously in the vicinity of the old Republic Studios.

It probably goes without saying at the moment that I've omitted some images from this Julius Shulman photoset. It's "Job 1654: Jones and Emmons, Sascha Brastoff's Ceramics (Los Angeles, Calif.),1954".



Here's the structure at the right of the picture above.



Initially, I didn't realize that the wall with the name on it was at the end of a section that floated on narrow supports. This is a detail view from the side.



Now we get to see the factory, complete with stairs to the observation platform.



The observation platform turned out to be smaller than I expected.



There are plenty of examples of Sascha Brastoff's work online. This shot shows a display area with some ceramic pieces.



Unfortunately, this is the only color image in the set.



I'll finish the Shulman photos with this shot looking over the outdoor display area.

Here's the building permit for the slightly later addition of a new sales office. As you can see, the address was 11520 W Olympic Boulevard.


Online Building Records

I can't see a demo permit, but there was an application to use the site as a Christmas tree lot in 1980. The current building (below), with the address 11500 W Olympic Boulevard, seems to have been built in 1981.

I think the "greasy spoon" was on the corner of Ventura Boulevard and Radford Avenue. I posted the aerial below when we were looking for Eatons on Ventura back in October. 'The Corner' might be the building under the copyright message, across the street and to the right of the restaurant I originally arrowed.

The address is actually very close to Laurel Canyon Boulevard. I'm pretty sure that the building I've arrowed on this 1952 aerial is Eatons. The Earl Carroll Vanities and Moulin Rouge in the mid-to late '60s became the Hullabaloo and Kaleidoscope music venues -where many notable bands played - and later the Aquarius Theatre where the stage play Hair played - with Jennifer Warren in a lead role. The Fool painted the Aquarius in its distinctive style.

It looks like the whole block was still empty after the NBC Studios were demolished. The view below is from 1964.

Here are the Langdon and Wilson Offices, sandwiched between the Gaylord Apartments and the Mona Lisa Restaurant on Wilshire Boulevard. See more about the Mona Lisa in GW's recent post #33783. It's Julius Shulman's "Job 4368: Langdon and Wilson, Langdon and Wilson Offices (Los Angeles, Calif.), 1968".



I've mixed the color and black & white images together, but left out duplicates and the arty exterior shots. The next two photos show the reception area.





Now back to color for this view of a corridor.



It's a shame they didn't have wooden ceilings - these offices just aren't brown enough .



At least they have pretty good views.



Anyone recognize the model on the right?
