Arrow Hunan Province, China - Changsha, Changde & Jishou

Changsha & Changde are huge cities with populations of 7 and 5 million respectively. Yet for most of the world, they are unknown.

Here are some photos of the two cities from a recent trip in May. It's very unfortunate that our oppressive bus tour was so poorly setup, we wasted more time running from one end of the city to the other that there wasn't a lot of time to explore of these cities on foot.

Changsha

A city of 7 million people. Some recent posts have shown up on SSP about this city. This is the best I could do with the time allotted. You can't get this stuff on Google Streetview!

Changde

Another city, this one with a population of 5 million! I don't think it's ever been posted on SSP or at street level on SSC.

A smaller city with a population of merely 290K.

Great pics.

Those population figures need some nuance though. They're of the entire adminstrative areas and in China those are often huge >10,000 km2 and contain a lot of countryside. I'd say the urban populations of these cities are around 3 million and 1.5 million.

Ahh, crazy China. Good shots. Unfortunately for this country though many cities tend to all look the same outside the few old districts that still exist. That commie white-squared tile facade is a dime a dozen.

What I love most of all are the subtle English translation and spelling errors you still see everywhere you go. For example, the backwards 'D' in drugstore on the third to last picture in Jishou. I sometimes wonder if the grammar and spelling errors will ever completely be eradicated here!
