Copenhagen in June – Frederiksberg, Istedgade, Carlsberg brewery, City and more

A weekend in June I visited Copenhagen, and as usual tried to see and photograph diverse styles and districts, not only the most touristy ones.

From the train from Malmö:

Turning Torso and the new Entré mall at Värnhemstorget.

New residential buildings u/c at Malmö’s limestone quarry.

Malmö skyline, dominated by Turning Torso, from the train, at the Swedish side of Öresundsbron. The chimneys will be torn down.

The same view from a bit further away, also including Kronprinsen, Hilton and St Petri Church.

From Istedgade to Valby:

Istedgade, a notorious street in Vesterbro close to the city center. It begins with hotels and tourist attractions but soon transforms into a row of sex shops, gay clubs and visible prostitution mixed, and then transforms into quarters with Arabian restaurants and shops:

Kristikirken (Christ Church) is situated at Enghaveplads where Istedgade ends. It is built in limestone and has green details, perhaps the most exotic and special church in Greater Copenhagen.

Valby:

These cozy quarters are located between Frederiksberg and Valby, close to the Carlsberg brewery.

The mighty Carlsberg brewery in the district Valby:

Carlsberg HQ, built in 1961, is the 3rd tallest highrise in Denmark. It is 88m tall and has 22 floors. The Carlsberg complex is a mix of such diverse architectural styles as Italian renaissance, 60s moderinism and Islamic architecture. That will be presented in the following pictures.

Fyrtårnet, a guardian tower from 1883 belonging to the brewery.

The famous Elephant tower, Elefanttårnet, famous from the „elephant beer“ bottles. " It was drawn by Vilhelm Dahlerup, the architect who also made Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek.

Elefanttårnet was built in 1901, so the swastika was made before it become a symbol of the Nazis. And besides, the Nazi symbol is rotated 45 degrees. Before the war, the swastika often symobolized the Nordic.

The Carlsberg museum also has a swastika on the top.

Looks like quite a long walk, and enjoyable too. I like how the different types of neighbourhoods just go from one to the other without a break (which would be the Stockholm style

) I really like the elephants, I miss stuff like that in modern architecture.

Around Søndermarken Park, Valby:

Pile Allé, changing name to...

...Valby Langgade is one of the few hilly streets in Greater Copenhagen.

It is located just next to Søndermarken park in Frederiksberg.

Søndermarken is close to Frederiksberg have and castle.

Pile Allé:

This summer day it was time to graduate for many students, so all over the city you could see crazy teens in military vehicles!

Can a restaurant be more typical Danish?

This is a labyrinth next to Pile Allé that you could get lost in. It can take some time to find the core.

wow, these are some beautiful photos! Copenhagen looks very pedestrian friendly, clean, green, and lively. Can't wait to make it out there sometime. Did you by any chance get to visit the Christiania neighborhood? they don't allow photography there, but it's a very, very unique place from what i've read.
