The last two photos really drive home that the tower is going to be oriented at a 45degree angle to the rest of the buildings.

I think that alone will give this a bigger impact on the pearl 'skyline' than anything else.

The more I look at the base, the more it's unique in a way, kinda funky, and then a half rotated tower on top? I like that it's that different.

I'm with you there. I think the cladding is interesting, and will make it appear similar to the Burnside Bridgehead project. Anything that adds diversity to the skyline is good, and this is fairly tall.

These aren't new images, but I noticed they haven't been posted on here before. There was some slight evolution in the design from the images up-thread.

There's also floor plans on my site.

I don't get it. It looks like they're putting a tower on top of a warehouse, which would make sense (maybe?) if the warehouse was either historic or architecturally noteworthy in some way. But this is all new construction, right? The tower is fine. It's not amazing or anything, but it's fine and I like the angle. But the podium? I just don't get it.

Warehouses make great spaces for retail, restaurants, art galleries, creative offices, etc. Think of it as flex space. Entirely appropriate for the area and plus, 13th Ave is a "warehouse" district. They're just continuing that aesthetic further north.

That would make sense if they kept the old warehouse.... but as you can see there is a HUGE hole in the ground where a warehouse once stood.

All new construction

I understand that. I'm more talking about the look of the warehouse-style podium. It has zero visual interest at all. The shape of it is fine, but it just looks like no effort was put into the appearance of it.

From the renderings and conceptual images published by GBD, it seems like the "warehouse" podium will be clad in an attractive brick. At least that's something.

It is also similar to their original design with he turnaround, although it read more as a perimeter cluster of brick buildings than a "warehouse."

The design and setbacks reminds me of the street presence of the Empire State Building - you can barely see the tower from the street, as it seems totally disconnected from the street-frontage retail.

Funny you say that. Last October, my dad and I were getting dinner at the Heartland Brewery on 5th Avenue in Manhattan. We didn't realize that we were inside the Empire State Building until we walked outside and my dad asked me where the Empire State Building was. We still didn't notice it until we crossed the street and looked up.

^^^^^^

that's pretty funny. Love it.

I think this building will be really cool. I like the warehouse podium.
We need more unique architecture in this town, and this will deliver

Portions of the crane were sitting in the NW 13th Ave right-of-way this evening. Even if it didn't go up today, I'm sure it will be soon.

You can't see too much in this night pic, but the Overton hole is coming along nicely

Still no crane! And last time I was there, the crane parts had disappeared.
