Yeah I think we're all ready for the comeback. Just saw that PoBoyz Cajun Creole Kitchen opened in the former Bijou space on SW 3rd. Didn't even know Bijou had closed! They are open for lunch but they'll have dinner soon I believe and live music.

Yeah, that was a bit of a heartbreaker.

One of Portland’s oldest and best breakfast restaurants has closed for good

Randall Willhite, a former football player for the Oregon Ducks, confirmed to The Oregonian/OregonLive that his tasty po’ boy cart PoBoyz is taking over the old Bijou space with a new Cajun-Creole restaurant, complete with a new stainless steel bar and a live music stage. Willhite is shooting to open in August for lunch and dinner, with breakfast to follow once the new restaurant is up and running.

When the pandemic arrived, Bijou Cafe owner Kathleen Hagberg, 74, was already contemplating retirement. Last spring, Bijou began pivoting to takeout, joining other restaurants throughout the world. But the shift wasn’t easy, and breakfast dishes don’t typically travel well -- some of COVID-19′s first restaurant closures were brunch spots such as Helser’s and Arleta Library Cafe. Bijou went from being financially sound to bringing in less than $150 a day, which wasn’t enough to support its employees.
