^ Nice filler ...but would of been great to have one these recent developments in past 8 years in this corridor to break the 700ft range to add to some height variety...is there one more lot possible here still for something to be built?

The blocked sightlines of the C&C building are really my only gripe with 300 N Michigan. Its a fine tower otherwise. Nothing amazing about it, but nothing absolutely awful either. Something taller would have been nice, but 500+ feet is still pretty ample height.

The "M&M" columns are a novel detail, but the rest of this tower is flat, boring and unsophisticated even by Nashville standards. Michigan Avenue deserves much better.

Are glass boxes supposed to be anything but flat and boring?

God is in the details, my boy. Even "glass boxes" like Wolf Point East, 369 Grand, One Chicago, 448 LaSalle, etc. manage to create patterns and a sense of depth.
This just sucks. I rarely say this, but I wish this tower was shorter.

Apples to oranges in your comparison. There is a HUGE difference between the exterior curtainwall design on this box and the examples that r18tdi mentioned.

It has some horizontal white lines on 3 sides at least . Hard to see in these foggy pictures. Could definitely be better, could be worse, I guess.

Did you see what was there before this was built? Huge improvement!

Lost is ... the luggage store that was perpetually going out of business. They were at Randolph and Wabash for a short while, but are now ... gone ?

people are exaggerating heavy... could this have been better? of course. But it's replacing some nondescript brick building with an exclusive hotel, lots of retail adding to Michigan ave, and apartments. plus very little parking.

Absolutely, all of the items you mentioned are awesome..the building design is just incredibly banal for such a prominent site on a prominent street, that's all.

CitizenM is exclusive, really? I thought it was a bargain eurotrash chain.

I was in the CitizenM in NYC in Bowery, both the lobby and sky lounge. Honestly it was super nice and I had friends staying there that loved it. Yeah I wouldn't characterize it as 'exclusive' for sure, ie it's not the Langham but it's definitely a great addition to Chicago's hotel lineup IMO. I like that Chicago is getting some Euro flair even if it is botique. Makes for good Instagramming.

From https://www.citizenm.com/hotels/unit...k-bowery-hotel

Saw article that said 280 rooms which is a pretty good size (probably because rooms are tiny). Honestly I think it will reflect well on the city and make Michigan Ave a little more modern/hip.

Yes agree. The problems with this building imho ARE the V columns and off base. A well executed glass box with the curtain wall extending straight down flush to the sidewalk might have been pulled off here - but this is a hopelessly compromized design. I thought it had a chance but it just looks like another pedistal on a podium.

Only on the lower hotel levels. It's like they gave up on the upper portion and asked the accountants to design it.
