I nominate you to be the first, and then write about it.

The NY Wheel needs some rims. Get some nice Vossen Rims on that 600 ft wheel.

Finally, once built, in the wise words of the great philosopher Chamillionare: "they see me rollin they hatin".

NY Wheel to continue to pay $495K for storage of wheel parts

Updated Apr 7; Posted Apr 7

The fate of the New York Wheel is still unclear as its former contractor Mammoet-Starneth continues to hash out an array of issues as part of a bankruptcy case.

The NY Wheel and Mammoet-Starneth failed to come to an agreement during a two-day mediation session in February.

However, it seems as if both sides have made some headway at the negotiating table, according to recently filed court documents.

New York Wheel has four months to find funding to restart work

MAY 9, 2018
BY DANA SCHULZ

Quote:
“[We are] committed to the completion of the project, which is the centerpiece of a Staten Island redevelopment project. This settlement will allow New York Wheel the opportunity to finalize its financing arrangements and re-commence the construction and completion of the Wheel,” the New York Wheel said in a statement responding to a bankruptcy court stipulation that gives the project 120 days to find the required funds and hire a new contractor (h/t SI Advance). This comes after the project’s design team walked off the job last June amidst a “bitter pay dispute” with the developer.

The 630-foot Ferris wheel has been plagued by cost overruns and delays from the beginning, so if they’re not able to get things back on track by September 5th, it could mean the end of what was planned to be a major revenue generator and attraction for Staten Island.

here is another report on this news:

WHEEL I'LL BE

After a year of delays, construction on Staten Island’s giant Ferris wheel could restart soon

By AUDREY WACHS (@GRIDWACHS) • May 22, 2018

After delays of almost a year, Staten Island’s giant Ferris wheel is finally back on track. Earlier this month, the aggrieved parties reached a deal in court that allows construction on the New York Wheel to move forward.

Those delays adds cost.
I will celebrate when construction is finished.

While the Wheel hasn't restarted yet, a walk around the area reveals a lot of progress on surrounding developments, Lighthouse Point and Empire Outlets...

https://www.nycedc.com/project/lighthouse-point

Quote:
At full build-out, Lighthouse Point will create 85,000 square feet of retail; a restaurant and entertainment space; a 12-story, 94,000 square foot residential building housing approximately
80 market-rate housing units and 20 housing units permanently affordable at 60% of area median income; a 160+ room hotel; a communal-style workspace for local start-up businesses;
an urban beach; and a series of outdoor recreational areas throughout the site—all with unmatched views of New York Harbor, lower Manhattan and the forthcoming New York Wheel.
Project construction will be phased, with each portion of the project opening to the public as it is completed.

The Westin New York Staten Island: Arriving 2019

Lighthouse Point has partnered with Starwood Hotels & Resorts to bring the first full-service, business-friendly upscale hotel to the Staten Island waterfront. For guests coming to experience
a weekend in NYC, corporations seeking an event location that is as beautiful and inspiring as it is convenient, or for a couple celebrating the beginning of their life together, the Westin New York
Staten Island will provide a perfect destination.

I somehow feel that Staten Island will always compete with Jersey City.
Empire Outlets looks promising.

Staten Island?

Okay, that’s probably why we have a new Ferris Wheel.
Empire Outlets is a nice shopping venue, but every suburban neighborhood has one.

Brooklyn has 9 DeKalb Ave.
If a skyscraper fan wants a good conversation, sadly Staten Island is not even a passing thought.

The Staten Island Wheel is certainly a must-visit, especially in the summer season.

You get views of Manhattan, Brooklyn & Jersey City.

They better build that wheel. They are taking their sweet time. Now, without the wheel the tourist draw of a mall won't be nearly as much.

Still no agreement with the wheel, though the City is looking to get involved to speed things up.

But the Outlet location is fine, people will come outside of the ferry terminal with that complex being there.

Another summer season, another missed opportunity.
Why?
Over budget?
Such a shame, really!

Poor management.
No excuses will recover the loss.
Does the New York Wheel have a future?

I think only Staten Islanders will come unless the wheel goes up. Even outlet shopping is unlikely to entice anyone to get off the ferry, especially tourists.

I believe you are wrong about that, but of course that won't be proven until it opens. Tourist will come to the outlets as surely as they did the High Line, simply because it's there, and it's New York. I think a lot of the natives will try to avoid it because of that.
