Just curiosity on my part. Didn't know that was a crime.

Low-quality aerial from September 30, 2017. A few more similar shots available on Flickr.

No need to wonder why green and gold represents Edmonton.

It looks like Edmonton officially has a new tallest! I guess the photo was taken from Blatchford, where the municipal airport used to be. That land is in the process of becoming a residential neighbourhood.

Edmonton, Meet Sky by Jeff Wallace, on Flickr

Thanks for the awesome photo Jeff Wallace!

What strikes me the most from that aerial image is how few towers there are outside downtown compared to cities of similar size such as Ottawa, Hamilton, or Calgary.

There are quite a few... all in the government district and 6-10 story stubbies. Probably accounts for some of what you’ve noticed.

^^ You can credit the City Centre Airport staying open after EIA opened, this restricted all vertical development for decades. That was one of the biggest backfiring decisions ever made in a city plagued by shortsighted, provincial, small-town thinking.

Seriously? Edmonton is a steady stream of towers and mid rises from 97th -124th. Then there is the university and the top of the valley north and south of the river.

City doesn't end at 124 street. Look at an aerial image of Ottawa. Towers right out to the suburbs.

I think Edmonton has quite a number of high rise buidings outside of downtown. Oliver extremely dense. Also there's towers lining the river, near U of A, Whyte, etc. Definitely more than your typical inland US city of similar size.

American cities is a very low bar to compare us. I consider Oliver downtown. I'm asking why isn't 87 Ave, 137 Ave, 75 St, 170 st lined with towers?

The Skyscraper diagrams list at th top of this page shows Edmonton has a small number of high rises - heck there is 10 or so near Southgate and the ones near WEM are NOT on this list. Kitchener has almost as many and Winnipeg more. It’s obviously incorrect.

I think this list is simply referring to the towers in the city that have been made into a diagram on SSP, not the actual number of towers in the city.

I am not sure Emporis captured all of the low and high rises in the Suburbs and other cities and towns in the CMA.

There are a fair number of towers clustered in the Meadowlark area, Callingwood and by Southgate.

For a moment I thought this was an image of Calgary.
