There could be development around the Roylston/Farmer's Market station. That's the last frontier of Downtown development. People tend to forget that part of Downtown exists because there is almost nothing there and it is cut off from the rest of Downtown by the 394 trench.

and of course if they close down the Impound Lot they could do a lot of redevelopment over there. Which might not be a bad thing economically for the city to reap in those tax dollars. I'd imagine there would have to be a lot of soil decontamination done. Then where do they move the Impound Lot? If you think about it the current location is pretty central for all citizens of the city.

That apartment building going up in back of the Thrivent pink glass tower, doesn't look like it belongs there, it looks so out of place. When I lived there, and watched the office tower completed, I dreamt that one day they'd build the other half of that office tower, back to back. Oh well!

You're not the only one. Everyone think this new construction is highly underutilized for this half of a block. What's sadder is that they didn't even think to add height to it in a future date.

It would have been thoughtful for the developers to put some balconies on those lower Nicollet Apartment buildings. Too late now!

That glass curved tower near Loring Park looks lonely, it looks like it's looking for its twin! How nice to add another one just like it near by!

Yes it does. Maybe even 2 more. This building unfortunately didn't quite turn out as it was sold. Some of the refinements on the exterior are less flattering as the original advertised. All said and done though it is still a game changer for the neighborhood and surprisingly it was approved to be built due to it's height.

It's great seeing all the new development in the area and there are very few empty lots left, if any. So you might see in the next few years some of the more under performing buildings being replaced.

There's the Summit Towers up on Lowry Hill, and it's still unbelievable that those towers were built and not halted by Nimby's. I've been in a few of those units with awesome views.

Is it now completely off-limits to build any more towers up on that hill?

They were built probably before there were organized oppositions were even thought of. Just look at all the interspersed high rise housing through out the city, the 3 Horn Towers as an example and the tallish one by Lake Calhoun.

I was living there during the controversy of Lake Point Tower being built, and it was my understanding, at the time, it took Hubert Humphrey's influence/intervention to get it built. True or not!

Don't know much about the history of that tower as I didn't move to the cities/Uptown until 1990. Very little was done in the Uptown area during my first 13 years but in the next 2 years before I sold my house the transformation had really began. Nothing tall though except for the 2 towers planned over by Whole Foods that has now been reduced to 1 tower.

Great progress on the former downtown Dayton's flagship store. Dayton's is the store that started Target. http://www.startribune.com/dayton-s-...ing/561890202/
