I would like to know too but I believe this is the most up to date thread out there... someone please correct me if I'm wrong though.

I believe most of the people in the Bay Area who are into development/construction/skyscrapers are in San Francisco and San Jose. I don't really know that many people to go to Oakland to take pics or even update this thread unfortunately.

Incase you wanted to check out the other Bay Area threads that I typically follow:

San Jose - https://www.skyscrapercity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=3031
San Francisco - https://forum.skyscraperpage.com/tag...=san+francisco

I’m also in Oakland and there are 50+ projects under development or recently completed within about a 3-mile radius of City Hall, but seems there’s not much interest from the SSP community in what’s happening in Oaktown. Unfortunately, I’m not good with the pic posting process or I’d be doing it after each of my monthly trips around town checking the progress of all of these projects. Pretty amazing with all that’s underway and more starting nearly every month.

I'm in San Jose so it's pretty far for me to even visit the beautiful city of Oakland. I'm also sort of scared to walk around by myself heh

Last night I was actually in downtown near Fox Theater and tbh with you guys, I was VERY surprised to see 0 homeless people around the area for like 5 blocks from 19th street and heading down. I would've thought it would be similar to San Francisco that where ever you go, you would AT LEAST see 1

I appreciate all of the updates and photos in this thread. If I ever find myself in Oakland with the time to take pics, then I'll definitely post them here.

I'll do a walkabout this weekend and take some photos - specifically 1100 Clay which has topped out, but if there's any other buildings people are interested in seeing the progress on let me know and I'll try to get a couple pics of that.

That would be greatly appreciated! This is only your 2nd post too haha.

I would like to see pictures from various vantage points if possible. Like how the skyline looks from Lake Merritt, or maybe some spots that are targeted for future development.

I'd love to see pics of the progress along Broadway.

Literally thinking the same thing. It's quite severe.

Holy f**k. So much construction Oakland. I live near Berkeley and the skyline is noticeably different from even a year ago.

Great pics, Tuvalu, thanks for sharing them!

I've lived in the Bay Area for ages and I've never seen so much construction in downtown Oakland going on at the same time. Downtown will be a totally different place, with so many people moving into areas that were previously pretty quiet outside work hours.

Amazing photos Tuvalu! Thank you for walking around and taking them!

I honestly did not realize THAT much construction was going on in Oakland so it's great to see them. I even appreciate that you took photos of buildings that are already completed.

So true, an incredible amount of construction is taking place in Central Oakland. And there are about 20-25 projects not captured in this update that I’m aware of. I’m going to head out this weekend or next for my monthly drive around and will take pics of the others and cross my fingers that I can get them posted here.

There is recent aerial footage of Oakland that shows a couple of dozen under construction/proposed buildings in this Telegraph Tower video:

Everyone who has noted all the Oakland construction that we haven't been able to cover in this thread: you're right! It appears Oakland will produce more housing units this year than San Francsico will (although I should note this year's total for SF is pretty good by local standards).

Surprise! Oakland leads SF in housing

Oakland is expected to bring online more than 6,800 homes while San Francisco will probably produce about 4,700 units this year.

Oakland will feel very different in 2020. Today Oakland has an average of 2.5 people per household. That means there will be 17,000 new residents with these 6,800 new units. Out of 429,000 Oakland residents in 2018, that comes to a 3.96% increase in a single year to 446,000. If this increase were continued for 10 years, we would see a pop. of 599,000.

The concentration of units downtown should really make a big difference in night time street life.
