I know it's hard for us (forumers) to believe, but there are a lot of people who move in to an apartment or condo with the impression that time will stay frozen while they live there.

If you move next to a vacant or parking lot, don't be surprised if it gets developed one day.

Slightly different than the park situation above, but same principle.

I do blame Proco Joe for this. That's pretty crowded already there. And vermillion is UC

I knew this moving in. Anyone moving into those apartments will have a choice, don't move there if that's an issue.
Maybe it's time to start dispersing these events so they're not so heavily concentrated in Union Park? Festivals are common in the city, it's not unreasonable to ask residents to put up with some inconvenience... but seems like Union Park has at least 2 major events per month in the warmer months.

There's plenty of large potential sites in the Near West Side where you could shift events around. Windy City Smokeout moved to the United Center parking lots this year - should be an even better location once the new Damen stop opens. They could also hold festivals on some of the huge tracts of vacant land in the IMD, or at Addams Park like Spring Awakening or Ruido Fest.

TBH, this is a weird complaint from Burnett given that he has approved several new low-income buildings around Union Park in the past (including Heartland Alliance's buildings just to the south), and this new development would contain more than the required amount of affordable housing.

Awesome. Not really old news. I reported a week or so ago that they received a new construction permit for phase 3. Glad to see it moving!

Also these are rentals which surely can't generate equal or more complaints than condos. He's been somewhat tougher on residential proposals in the past so it's not entirely out of character and he doesn't seem opposed to the taller building. He's green lit bascially every commercial proposal to cross his desk though even if west loop condo owners would like him not to.

I doubt the hospitals in the IMD would be overly excited about live events on their doorstep.

Demo building permit issued for 1043 W Fulton Market which is the (proposed) future home of a 147 foot tall hotel part of the whole Hartshorne Plunkard HQ build. This is just a few hundred feet from the Google/SRAM building.

The Chicago skyline continues to evolve with the addition of One Bennett Park. Located in the Streeterville neighborhood, the hybrid skyscraper of apartments and condominiums was designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects and offers incredible views of the city skyline and Lake Michigan. Watch construction progress for the luxury building from 2016 to 2019 with EarthCam's 4K time-lapse movie.

Is it that exciting? I remember the proposed tower being rather underwhelming...especially for the location.

^^ I think that's rather nice. Sharp, clean lines. Good street level/base. Nice horizontal banding at bottom third. I'd like to have seen the bracing elements go all the way around. And the roof is quite plain.

Anytime a taller and much better building takes over something that looks like a turd is exciting.

I'm excited.

If they're doing demo, they clearly are ready to get this thing moving

I really love additions to the Michigan Ave skyscraper cliff. We haven't a had a lot of these, so this will be fun to watch go up.

Will this thing exceed 500 ft?

Glad to see someone with mutual feelings and the last time I check Chicago Curbed was stating the building could reach 523 ft.

^ If that's true it deserves its own thread, no?

Btw, I think you should learn how to "quote" other posts. You seem to be doing it incorrectly and making other posts look like part of your own.
